*Road Safety Week In Maharashtra State Begins Today To Spread Awareness.*

United Way Mumbai NGO in association with Mumbai traffic police, Mahim residents and trained NSS students from various colleges raised awareness about road safety at Prabhadevi and Bandra on Saturday. NGO leader Mr Karan Desai took help from Traffic Police Inspector Mr Kishore Shinde incharge of Dadar and Shivaji park division and Mr Pravin Kadam Traffic Institute trainer Byculla in spreading awareness on road safety.
On the direction of the ministry of road transport and highways,the Maharashtra
home department on Monday issued a notification directing its transportation counterpart and traffic police across the state to undertake initiatives as part of the 31st National Road Safety Week.
United Way Mumbai is committed to the cause of road safety through its project United for Road Safety which, aims to enhance the state of road safety through a collective community impact model. It works in close collaboration with the Mumbai Traffic Police and Regional Transport Office, other road safety experts and the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the University of Mumbai.
The awareness drive aims to improve the enforcement, compelling people to abide with the traffic rules in a bid to avoid drunk and rash driving.Drink-and-drive cases have recorded a rise despite several awareness campaigns run throughout the year. This year, the main focus of the Road Safety Week would be to make the enforcement stringent and ensure that the fatalities remain at the lowest. As a part of the drive, several campaigns and competitions will be carried out at junctions, which have been identified as black spots and accident-prone areas.
During this road safety week, United way Mumbai NGO has approached police and joined hands with them to assist on crackdown and awareness.
Golden Rules of Road Safety.
Always use a helmet while riding a two-wheeler vehicle
Use a seatbelt while driving a car
Do not extend the specified speed limit
Do not drink and drive
Never cut lanes while driving
Pedestrians should always use the footpath
Do not use a mobile phone while riding/driving
Do not drive the vehicle rashly and dangerously
Pedestrians should cross the road using a zebra crossing
Always give preference to pedestrians while driving/riding the vehicle.
