Professional and intellectuals take to streets for Hindu-Muslim unity
MUMBAI: Coinciding with the Independence Day festivities and the emerging situation in India in the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, hundreds of professionals, intellectuals and scholars – sporting tricolour in their hand – took to the streets on Tuesday to promote Hindu-Muslim unity.
Professors, doctors, lawyers, engineers, technocrats among others participated in the march and stressed on the need to be united and tackle the divisive forces in the country.
They felt that ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the country is witnessing several incidents of communal, casteist and ethnic violence – and a need is being felt to foil the designs of divide by way of love.
They carried national flags in their hands and also wore dresses to suit the occasion – and attracted peoples attention.
The march was organised by All India Professionals’ Congress (AIPC), which is currently presided over by veteran diplomat-turned-politician and Thiruvananthapuram MP Dr Shashi Tharoor.
The ‘ BHAICHARA MARCH ‘ organised by AIPC Mumbai South started from Burhani College at Mazgaon and passed through Wadibunder, D’Lima Street, Rosary School, Nava Nagar ending at Maharana Pratap Chowk.
The march was led by Dr Moatasim Solkar, President, AIPC Mumbai South, Dr Mahendra Mahagaonkar, Vice President, Anugya Prabha, Secretary.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation, Dr Solkar said that in addition to political reforms; social, educational and economic reforms are also important. “The country is passing through a difficult phase and it is time that we all remain united and take it ahead,” he said, adding that more and more people should join the AIPC. “The professionals have a big role to curb propaganda and fake news and tell people the truth,” he added.
Dr Mahagaonkar said that professionals are the backbone of the society and they have a big role to play in the nation’s transformation. “We have to take our ideas to the people and contribute in a small manner,” he said.
Anugya Prabha said that it is heartening to note that several women professionals have been joining the AIPC and attending meetings.
Mr Nana Patole, MPCC President, Dr Adam Farooq, senior pediatrician, Mr Gulam Parkar, Ex- Indian Cricketer, Dr Parveen Roshnaiwala, senior Gynaecologist, Adv Amin Solkar, senior criminal lawyer, Adv Mathew Anthony ( President Mumbai AIPC ), Dr Pornima Mhatray, celebrity cosmetologist were among the many prominent personalities who joined the foot march.
