Hello Mumbai Business Desk
The Union Budget 2025-26, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, introduces several measures aimed at bolstering India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), recognizing
their pivotal role in the nation’s economic landscape.

Key Initiatives for MSMEs:
1. Credit Guarantee Scheme for Manufacturing MSMEs: A new credit guarantee scheme
has been launched to assist MSMEs in the manufacturing sector. This initiative enables
these enterprises to acquire machinery and equipment without the need for collateral. A self-financing guarantee fund will offer each applicant coverage of up to ₹100 crore, with the possibility of larger loan amounts. Borrowers are required to pay an upfront and annual guarantee fee based on the reducing loan balance.
2. Increase in MUDRA Loan Limit: The government has doubled the loan cap under the Micro
Units Development and Refinance Agency (MUDRA) scheme from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh for entrepreneurs who have successfully repaid previous loans. This move aims to support micro-enterprises and small businesses by providing favorable loan terms, thereby facilitating their expansion and growth.
3. Simplification of Business Regulations: The budget proposes simplified business
regulations and the creation of an investment friendliness index to foster a more conducive environment for MSMEs. These reforms are expected to reduce compliance burdens and encourage entrepreneurship.
4. Support for Technology Adoption: To enhance competitiveness, the budget emphasizes incentivizing MSMEs to integrate advanced technologies into their operations. This includes the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and digital platforms,
aiming to improve operational efficiency and foster innovation.
5. Expansion of SIDBI: The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) will establish 24 new branches to reach and support historically underserved MSMEs, promoting inclusive economic growth across the nation.
Industry Reactions:
Industry leaders have expressed optimism regarding these initiatives. The credit guarantee scheme is anticipated to facilitate modernization and productivity enhancements among manufacturing
MSMEs. The increase in the MUDRA loan limit is expected to empower micro-enterprises to make larger investments, propelling significant expansion. Additionally, the focus on technology adoption is seen as a forward-thinking move to inspire innovation and growth within the sector.
Overall, the Union Budget 2025-26 reflects a comprehensive approach to strengthening the MSME sector through financial support, regulatory reforms, and technological advancement, aiming to
foster a more robust and competitive MSME landscape in India.
