The Directorate of Revenue intelligence arrested USA based NRI Women Ami Kotecha returning via Dubai caught red handed along with her teenage daughter for smuggling around 5.47 kg of gold worth Rs 4.86 crore at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Friday.
Ami Kotecha booked under Custom Act, produced before the Court and remanded to judicial custody.
Acting on Specific information DRI Mumbai Staff stopped Ami Kotecha while she was crossing the Channel, but official found nothing from her.But when they Searched her Minor daughter they found nine yellow bars with different weights.
The Contraband was concealed in a customised Clothing jacket worn beneath her dress.
During Introgation girl admitted her mother gave her jacket containing gold and she was not aware that bringing gold to India would be illegal.
According to Custom Official earlier Ami Kotecha’s husband also arrested in the gold smuggling case.Ami Kotecha used her Minor daughter for this illegal Act.But Ami Kotecha’s lawyer claims her client is innocent.
