6th Convocation Ceremony Held at SKUAST-K: Graduates Honored for Academic Excellence
An Exclusive Interview with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganie by Hilal Hayder

Srinagar, July 2025 – Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) held its 6th Convocation Ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements of hundreds of graduates in a grand event attended by esteemed dignitaries, proud families, and academic leaders.

The event was graced by Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha, and Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who commended SKUAST-K’s role in transforming the agricultural landscape of the Union Territory through education, research, and innovation.

A total of 445 degrees, 150 gold medals, and 334 merit certificates were conferred upon graduates, with a significant number of honors going to women achievers, underscoring the university’s commitment to gender equity and empowerment.

In an exclusive interview with Hilal Hayder, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganie reflected on the university’s journey and vision. He stated,

> “Education is not just preparation for life—it is life itself. SKUAST-K is emerging as a hub of innovation, where modern science meets grassroots realities. We are investing in infrastructure, advanced research in AI, gene editing, speed breeding, and building Centres of Excellence to serve both our students and the farming community.”

Prof. Ganie also highlighted several milestones, including:

The introduction of cutting-edge academic programs in biotechnology, AI, regenerative medicine, and climate-resilient agriculture.

The foundation laying of a new girls’ hostel to support increased enrollment of women in higher education.

Strategic initiatives aligned with the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) to enhance productivity, sustainability, and rural livelihoods.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the efforts of SKUAST-K in nurturing future agri-leaders, stating,

> “Kashmir’s natural wealth, coupled with the intellectual capital produced by institutions like SKUAST-K, positions it as a future horticulture and agri-tech hub.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha added,

> “The achievements of SKUAST-K’s graduates, especially the outstanding performance of women, reflect the UT’s dynamic progress in higher education and inclusive development.”

As SKUAST-K continues its upward trajectory, Prof. Ganie reaffirmed his vision of creating a “knowledge-powered, innovation-driven” university that stands as a model not only for Jammu and Kashmir but for the entire nation.
