Srinagar:
Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi has issued a strong statement condemning the recent act of vandalism at the revered Hazratbal Dargah, where miscreants defaced and broke the newly installed National Emblem (Ashoka Emblem) on the shrine’s premises during Eid-e-Milad celebrations.

“This act of sacrilege and disrespect to our national symbol is not only shameful but tantamount to an attack on our shared faith and national unity,” Dr. Andrabi said. “It felt like a cloudburst had broken on me when I saw the emblem shattered.”

She described the perpetrators as “no less than terrorists”, calling their actions a direct assault on the dignity and sanctity of Hazratbal. The emblem was installed just two days earlier, symbolizing national pride and unity at one of the most sacred religious sites in Jammu & Kashmir.

“I request Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji, as well as all security and intelligence agencies, to ensure the immediate arrest of all those involved in this heinous and premeditated act. They should be booked under stringent laws, including the Public Safety Act (PSA),” she urged.

Dr. Andrabi further emphasized that once identified, the culprits will face a lifetime ban from entering Hazratbal Dargah, and a criminal FIR will be lodged to ensure strict action is taken.

She also warned against the politicization of religious spaces, alleging that this incident had political undertones driven by elements aiming to disturb peace and harmony in the region.

“The Dargah is a symbol of peace, devotion, and national integration. No one will be allowed to tarnish its sanctity for political or extremist purposes,” she concluded.
