Grand Jain Rath Yatra in Mumbai: Massive Crowd Gathers in a Powerful Display of Faith, Unity, and Innovation
Historic pledge announced: Until every ward in Mumbai has a Kabootarkhana, the Jain community will observe a symbolic renunciation.

On Sunday, under the leadership of Shri Mumbai Jain Sangh Sangathan, a historic and unprecedented Jain Rath Yatra was organized in Mumbai. With over 25,000 devotees participating, the event turned into a spiritual and cultural milestone. More than just a religious procession, the yatra was a vibrant fusion of dharma propagation, social unity, and technological innovation.

The grand procession was flagged off by Cabinet Minister Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha, in the divine presence of revered Jain Acharyas and Gachhadipatis – Param Pujya Rajshekharsurishwarji, Ratnakarsurishwarji, Nityasensurishwarji, Chandranansagarji, Kirtiratnasurishwarji, and Hiteshchandrasurishwarji. During the inauguration, Minister Lodha stated, “Every area in Mumbai must have a Kabootarkhana – it is a living symbol of non-violence.” He also made a public declaration that until every ward has proper arrangements to feed pigeons, the Jain community will collectively renounce a particular item as a form of protest.

Speaking at the event, Shri Kamlesh Shah, a key trustee of the Mumbai Jain Sangh Sangathan, said, “This is not just a religious tradition; it’s a spiritual movement, a purposeful parade, and a living image of unity.” He emphasized that denying Kabootarkhanas is injustice to voiceless beings and reaffirmed their demand to ensure Kabootarkhanas in every locality.

Another trustee, Shri Nitin Bora, highlighted the scale of the event, stating that more than 200 Jain Sanghs, over 400 revered saints and sadhvis, and around 25,000 devotees participated — creating a magnificent blend of Jinshasan’s glory, unity, and service. Trustee Girish Shah added, “This Rath Yatra is about taking a pledge of devotion, dedication to service, and the voice of spiritual awakening.”

The procession featured 15 elaborate tableaux (Jhankis), each delivering a deep message:

The first tableau, “Strength in Unity”, showed flags of various Jain Sanghs waving in unison, symbolizing collective strength and devotion.

The second, “United Bharat – A Spiritual Nation”, used a map of India to depict how Jain values are vibrant across the country.

“Youth for Dharma” showcased tech-savvy youth chanting the Navkar Mantra, reflecting the theme of “Tech + Faith.”

“Finance + Freedom = Dharma + Enterprise” demonstrated how young entrepreneurs can balance economic freedom with ethical living and religious values.
Other impactful tableaux highlighted themes such as:
“Social Reform” (education, addiction recovery, environmental work),
“Sadhu-Sadhvi Protection” (safety and medical care during vihar),
“Digital Dharma” (apps, websites, e-books),
“Financial Transparency”,
“Women Leadership”, and
“Spirituality – A Solution to Every Crisis.”

A special attraction was “Jain Sangh Vision 2040”, a futuristic LED tableau that showcased digital blueprints, automation, Jain education, and youth leadership in a high-tech format.

The final tableau, “Unity of the Sangh – Glory of Jinshasan”, brought together men, women, youth, seniors, and volunteers — all holding flags, lamps, and flowers. This emotional finale carried the message: “One Sangh, One Dharma, One India.”

The event’s success was made possible by the tireless efforts of Virendra Shah, Ghevarchand Bohra, Bhavarlal Kothari, Nitin Vora, Mukesh Jain, Rakesh Shah, Ashish Shah, Miteshbhai, Kalpeshbhai, Jayeshbhai, Girishbhai, and the energetic Yuva team.

Throughout the yatra, the atmosphere was charged with spiritual devotion, cultural performances, music, traditional costumes, and artistic displays. Devotees earned spiritual merit by pulling the chariot ropes, while saints’ discourses inspired people toward dharma, self-restraint, and inner transformation.

This historic Rath Yatra concluded with the profound message that religion is not limited to rituals – it is a powerful tool for social upliftment, youth inspiration, and harmonious integration of tradition with modern life.
