Self-Reliant Fund Strategy Meet organised by MSME Development & Facilitation Office Mumbai discusses the opportunities for providing funding to the MSMEs
September 16, 2025, Mumbai, Maharashtra – Development and Facilitation Office (DFO), Mumbai, the regional office of Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India organized a Strategy Meet with various Stakeholders of the Self Reliant India (SRI) Fund at their MSME Regional office.
The Self Reliant India (SRI) Fund is a Government of India initiative to provide equity, quasi-equity and debt funding options to the Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSMEs) with growth potential, as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign.
Established in 2020, SRI Funds operates through a mother-fund (NSIC Venture Capital Fund Limited – NVCFL) and daughter-fund with a total corpus of INR 50,000 crores to foster growth, create jobs and employment and support MSMEs in upgrading themselves to successful enterprises.
“SRI Funds have been created for traditional MSMEs and support their growth. The Strategy Meet was organized with the Daughter Funds organisations to understand their objectives and challenges in fulfilling the obligations under the SRI Funds. It was a very meaningful discussion and we have collated various inputs and suggestions from all the participating Daughter fund organisations. This will help us devise the mechanism to support execution of the objectives under the SRI Fund.” said Shri Praful Umare, Assistant Director, MSME DFO Mumbai.
With the participation of over 20 Daughter funds organization, the Strategy Meet covered various aspects of discussions including the current status of various funds, type of companies, focus sectors, ticket size and models of funding by each Funding group. The suggestions were sought from the participants on the role played by MSME Ministry as a facilitator and support their mission in the growth of MSMEs.
“Our role is to connect the right kind of MSMEs to the right kind of Funding group. Being the Regional office of the Ministry, we are constantly engaged with various MSMEs across the sectors. This makes our role in identifying the relevant MSMEs and mapping them to the appropriate Daughter fund and ensure that they take this opportunity as per their business interest.” said Shri Milind Barapatre, Joint Director and Head, MSME DFO – Mumbai selfSelf -Reliant India (SRI) Fund Strategy Meet by MsME in association with We Spark Start Up Association held in Mumbai.
The event was supported by Paragon Advisors Partners LLP, Fireside Ventures Advisory LLP and IvyCap Ventures Advisors Pvt. Ltd. We Spark Start Up Association & Theistic Business Consultants coordinated the execution of the Strategy Meet and moderated the session.
“Today’s meet highlighted the need of awareness among the MSMEs about the opportunity of Equity based funding through SRI Funds. The other actionable opportunity is to create a match between the Funds and the desired type of MSMEs. While the purpose of the funds is to extend Capital support and growth of the traditional MSMEs, the perceived complex nature of the mechanism has been a deterrent in its full potential utilisation. These funds act as an additional opportunity for the funding requirements for business growth apart from the standard Banking models. With the feedback from the participating companies and with the support of MSME DFO Mumbai, we intend not only to simplify the mechanism but also create a sustained campaign to reach out to all the MSMEs about the SRI Funds.” said Shri Umesh Unnikrishnan, Director, We Spark Start Up Association & Theistic Business Consultants.
