Mumbai Police Recover Property Worth ₹4.82 Crore in Special Drive; 156 Mobile Phones Returned to Owners

Mumbai, February 28, 2026: In a major crackdown on mobile theft and related property crimes, the Zone 4 unit of Mumbai Police has recovered stolen property worth ₹4.82 crore during a special detection drive conducted over the past month.
The drive, launched on January 20, 2026, focused primarily on tracing stolen and lost mobile phones registered across police stations under Zone 4. Dedicated teams were constituted at each police station to systematically review cases registered between 2019 and 2026. Using technical surveillance and coordinated inter-state follow-ups, officers were able to track and recover a significant number of devices.
According to officials, a total of 156 mobile phones were recovered between January 20 and February 27, 2026. The estimated market value of the recovered phones stands at ₹1.22 crore.


In addition to mobile phone recoveries, police also made substantial progress in theft investigations. In 24 registered cases, stolen gold ornaments and other valuables were recovered, with an estimated value of ₹3.08 crore.
The total estimated value of all recovered property amounts to ₹4.82 crore. The seized items were formally handed back to the complainants during a property return ceremony held on February 28.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deven Bharti, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, along with Satyanarayan, Joint Commissioner of Police (law & Order), and Vikram Deshmane, Additional Commissioner of Police, Central Region.


The initiative was led by Ragasudha R., Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, and implemented through the Assistant Commissioners of Police overseeing  along with other units under Zone 4, participated in the drive.
Police said the operation involved 10 officers and 99 personnel, highlighting what officials described as a “coordinated and technology-driven approach” to tackling property crimes. Authorities reiterated their commitment to strengthening detection mechanisms and ensuring swift recovery and return of stolen property to rightful owners.

On this special occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Ragasudha R, urged local residents to report any incidents of theft or snatching of mobile phones, jewellery, and other electronic items as soon as possible, assuring that the police will extend all necessary assistance.
