Mumbai: Mumbai Police’s Cyber Cell have busted a fake SIM card racket linked to international cyber fraud networks and arrested two accused for allegedly supplying over 100 SIM cards used in scams. The case surfaced after the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) flagged suspicious mobile numbers issued in Mumbai but operating in Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.
In this Connection Police arrested Mohammed Sultan Ansari (41) and Zeeshan Nisar Kamle (36). Investigations revealed that the SIM cards were activated using customers’ Aadhaar details, while fake Mumbai addresses were entered in records. Ansari allegedly activated extra SIM cards and sold them to Kamle for ₹500 each.
Authorities found that some numbers were used by overseas cyber fraud gangs targeting Indian victims. Police have seized mobile phones, registered a case under the Information Technology Act, and are searching for another suspect believed to be in Kerala. Court have sent to both accused in police Custody.Further investigation is underway.
