Mumbai: Ten builders who developed transit camps on land belonging to the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB), a unit of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), have been booked for allegedly defaulting on lease dues amounting to ₹121 crore over several years, an official said on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Officer of MBRRB, Mohan Bodke, has lodged a complaint against the developers at Kherwadi police station and the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police has taken over the probe.
According to the complaint, the accused include SM Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, Nakhawa & Jacob Developers, L.R. Precast Construction Pvt Ltd, K. Developers, Shreeram Developers, Prerna Developers Pvt Ltd, Radhika Builders and Developers, and Laxmi Builders & Developers, among other unidentified persons.
Police said MHADA had allotted around 400 transit tenements on lease to several developers across different parts of Mumbai on a rental basis through lease agreements, after obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and allotment letters during the period between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2021.

These transit premises are typically provided to developers to temporarily accommodate residents during building redevelopment projects.
However, investigations revealed that the developers later allegedly violated the terms and conditions of the lease agreements, resulting in outstanding dues amounting to ₹121 crore to MHADA.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway. No arrest has made yet.
