The Mumbai Crime Branch has produced accused Vishnu Kushwaha, arrested from Agra in connection with the firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, before a MCOCA court. The court has remanded him to police custody till February 25.
The accused was presented before the Special MCOCA Court, which sent him to the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch until February 25. With this, a total of 12 accused have been arrested in the case so far. Those arrested include Jatin Vishnu Kushwaha, Ramesh Bhardwaj, Sonu Kumar, Vishal Thakur, Sunny Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Hrithik Vinod Singh Yadav, and Deepak Chandra.
Meanwhile, new revelations are emerging in the police investigation. According to the latest information, the accused conducted reconnaissance of Rohit Shetty’s house before the firing. The recce was carried out four to five times between January 18 and January 31. The main accused, Deepak Ramesh Chandra, allegedly opened fire, while Sunny, Sonu, and one absconding accused were also involved in the incident. Deepak was present at the spot during the firing, while the others were nearby but not directly at the scene.
Accused Sonu had lived in Kalyan for nearly two years, where he was reportedly involved in arms supply activities. A few months ago, he returned to his village in Agra but reconnected with the other accused through old contacts. After the firing at Rohit Shetty’s residence, the four accused reached Kalyan railway station separately and boarded a train to Agra.
The incident took place on the night of February 1, when four to five rounds were fired outside Rohit Shetty’s house. Neither Rohit Shetty nor anyone else was injured in the incident. Following the attack, police have tightened security in the area. The Crime Branch has made arrests from different states and is examining mobile phones, call detail records, and other evidence. The accused have been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
