EXCLUSIVE | Andheri Police Crack Interstate Two-Wheeler Theft Racket, Recover Bikes Worth ₹9 Lakh
Mumbai | Hello Mumbai News Exclusive:
In a major crackdown on organised vehicle theft, the Andheri Police have busted an interstate two-wheeler theft racket, arresting nine accused and recovering stolen motorcycles valued at over ₹9 lakh, top police sources confirmed to Hello Mumbai News.
The breakthrough came following sustained technical surveillance and ground-level intelligence inputs after a spike in two-wheeler thefts was reported across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and adjoining suburban pockets. Investigators traced the trail to a well-organised gang operating across state borders.
According to police officials, the accused targeted premium motorcycles parked in residential and commercial areas, later tampering with registration details to evade detection. During the operation, the police recovered several high-value motorcycles, including Royal Enfield Classic 350, Yamaha MT-15, KTM Duke, Pulsar NS and Yamaha RX series, registered in Maharashtra and other states.
The case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused were involved in multiple theft cases across different police jurisdictions, indicating a wider network than initially suspected.
Senior police officers closely monitored the operation, which was executed by a dedicated team from Andheri Police Station. Officials said the accused were produced before the court and have been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
Police sources told Hello Mumbai News that efforts are underway to identify additional gang members and trace other stolen vehicles linked to the racket. Further recoveries are expected in the coming days.
The successful bust is being viewed as a significant step towards curbing organised vehicle theft in Mumbai’s western suburbs.
