Hello Mumbai City Desk
Mumbai, February 27: In a major breakthrough in a series of high-end motorcycle theft cases, the Sakinaka Police Station has arrested two accused and recovered 11 stolen sports motorcycles collectively valued at ₹23.89 lakh. Police officials said the arrests have helped detect 15 cases registered across the city and suburbs.
The case came to light after a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 was reported stolen on the night of November 22, 2025. The motorcycle had been parked and securely locked near a residential society close to Bilal Masjid on Andheri–Ghatkopar Link Road in Mumbai. Following the complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Acting on technical surveillance and specific intelligence inputs, the motor vehicle theft detection team traced the first accused to Thakurpada in Dahisar Mori area of Thane. During sustained interrogation, police uncovered the involvement of a second accomplice, who was subsequently detained with assistance from local authorities in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
The arrested accused have been identified as Siraj alias Bablu Mohammad Rashid Khan (26), a native of Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, and Umar Amin Sheikh (20), a resident of Dhule district in Maharashtra. Investigators revealed that Khan was allegedly involved in at least 15 motorcycle thefts, while Sheikh assisted in disposing of the stolen vehicles.
Police officials said that during custodial interrogation, the duo led investigators to multiple locations from where stolen motorcycles were recovered. The seized vehicles include premium models manufactured by Royal Enfield, such as the Interceptor 650 and Hunter 350 variants. The total estimated market value of the recovered motorcycles stands at ₹23,89,000.
Apart from cases registered at Sakinaka, the breakthrough has also helped solve theft cases filed at police stations in Bhandup, Kurla, Sion and Vikhroli, significantly strengthening the city’s crackdown on organised vehicle theft syndicates.
Senior police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused are linked to a larger interstate racket involved in stealing and reselling premium motorcycles.
The recovery of high-value sports bikes and the detection of multiple cases in one operation has been described by officials as a significant success in curbing rising motorcycle thefts in the metropolitan region.
