Mumbai: Indubitably, Lions Club in India is the second largest group in the World after USA. Their charitable work towards any nature of causes speaks volumes for their devotedness in their humanitarian services. They reach out to help people anywhere across the country, even in remotest locales for any deserving causes and more so during nature’s calamities..

The Club is internationally connected to 215 countries, and has a strength of around 14 lakh members and thousands of clubs spread globally.

Hello Mumbai News Team took the privilege to interact over phone with Kishore Redkar for his views and his Club’s activities in Mumbai amid the lockdown and Covid-19 crisis.

Kishore said, amid this two months long lockdown they have devotedly distributed approx. 1000 PPE kits in Nair Hospital, Kasturba Hospital and also BMC run hospitals too. They also have distributed masks and sanitizers to people.

Kishore in his personal capacity has distributed over thousand masks and sanitizer in police department..Alongside his members he also distributed food and grain packets to people who are quarantined in their houses. Each packet was for1500 people which can last for 15 days and it was free of cost.In Byculla, in just a day, they distributed food for thousand people.

Prior to lockdown, they have carried out Charitable work in different areas. In some area, they have been helping partially blind people.. The other area they reached out is for the diabetic patients. They have conducted seminars for diabetic  and gave them free checkup and prevention tips  to deal with diabetes.

The seminars had hired special doctors who tell them about medication and give them proper diet. They even provided them with ayurvedic and homeopath medicines at low rates or sometimes for free of cost.

They also give counselling to children in the age group between 11 to 17 years and help them and guide their parents to deal in this phase with their children. Many mental and physical changes take place in this age group.

Not only this they also help cancer affected women during pregnancy. They also provide food to needy people who cannot afford to have even a morsel and give them healthy food.

His personal views on covid-19 is that we should take care of oneself and live with it. We should make changes in our society and work should be done digitally rather than physically.

According to him Government Agencies are trying their best, but we are experiencing this situation for first time. We should not judge people, but rather, we should help them. He is also working with MLA’s, BMC and Corporators.

He also made it known that in future, the club plans to conduct online seminars on Zoom video calls to spread awareness on how to live with covid-19.They also have plans to help poor people who cannot afford food in the present critical situation.

The message that he needs to convey to people is that they should not get panic, but trust in God and have faith in him., Maintain positivity and don’t  lose hopes. Do meditation and exercises at home.

This will help to maintain
positivity and mental temperament.
