News report by Ashmita Chhabria

Mumbai: Corona Virus is at its peak around the world. Many are affected by this vulnerable disease and many will be in future if people didn’t take any precautions. More than 90000 cases are there at Maharashtra.

Under such deadly conditions all BMC and Police officials Doctors Hospital Staff are working for our safety. So it’s our responsibility that we too care for them. So one personality caring and paying his responsibility came forward and Hello Mumbai Team got a chance to interact with him. Interacting over phone call with Hello Mumbai Correspondent Man Se Leader Nilesh Sawant shared his experience and said, “We are under lockdown state since 22nd March. It’s been almost 2½ months now. All the police officers are working on field leaving their homes and families. They are all on checkpoints. Government has announced lockdown 1.0 then 2.0 and so on but they are still working. Earlier they used to check that people do not step out. The officers didn’t allowed people to cross checkposts. People obeyed them but now people have become least bothered. They are coming down on streets due to change in lockdown.

Police officers have no facilities at all. Officials performing duties at highways, Vikroli, Bhandup, Kanjurmarg, Mulund, police stations are working hard for our safety but government is not providing them any facilities. All police officials BMC servants RTO people are working for us so we provide them food, water. They are working so hard forget sanitizers and gloves there is no availability of water for them.

Under such worse conditions leaving their families they are working for us, so I think it is our responsibility to atleast provide them food and water. So we are taking charge of this responsibility and providing them what we can. Some of my fellow party members are working with me. We distribute 100-150 packets per day. We go on streets and look for the officials working and give them these packets. At Kanjur Police Station we handover food containers.”

He further stated that he is not happy with government’s work. He said that, “Am not satisfied with Governments work. All the policemen endanger their lives and work for us. So at least government should provide them some kits, sanitizers, gloves, drinking water, and other safety equipment. BMC servants now its rainy season and they are working for cleanliness, they are cleaning gutters, bins, etc. they do not have gloves and safety materials. Government should do something for them. At the start doctors working at BMC hospitals didn’t had PPE kits.

We have done food donation, water donation, donation of medicine Arcenicum Album 30 to police, RTOS, and public. We are common people. We are doing the best we can from our pockets and we will be doing.”

He further requested people to help officials by saying, “Am requesting people who are highly educated should step out and help BMC workers and police officials. Staying at home and taking care of ourselves is good but suppose there is a checkpost in your locality or nearby your house so please help and provide food and water to officials working there.”

He further mentioned, “At the start of lockdown many people did social work but as time passed people stopped helping ones working for them. Now people are roaming in cars, and have sticker of essential service. There should be proper identification of the ones working for providing essential services. One should know that the person working under that name tag is actually working to provide these services to public or working for their own benefit. There is so much traffic due to these cars; that there is no point of checkpost. Why the government is asking the officials to work at checkpoints now? without caring for them and helping them. Government is starting few things and asking officials to do duty so at least care for them. They are staying under tent and not going back home, now it is rainy season how will they manage at tent? Many policemen have been affected with this vulnerable virus. They should be sent back and should not be forced to work. I request government to do something for BMC servants and BMC hospitals, policemen RTOs etc.

The conditions are worse and not in control of government too now. The lockdown should be held more strictly since start. At fourth lockdown government is getting army force they should have got them at first one. How much time will a common man stay at home? He has bills to be paid. So he will step out and work government should have taken charge and could have done better. But now it is our responsibility to take care of ourselves.

We have a hospital and quarantine center at kanjurmarg west. Condition there is so worse. No facilities, no good quality food, what is government doing? There are so many cases detected positive in morning and there is no ambulance available for them till late night. As number of cases is increasing there are no beds available. Few days back one of my friend got a call from his uncle reciting at malad. He was tested positive and ambulance was not available. Late night his uncle called him so my friend drove from bhandup all the way to malad and dropped his uncle at hospital at 1 am around at night. Am working on field since 2 months and am always hearing complains like they have no availability of kits, proper medical equipment, no good quality food, etc. services are depleting now. Government is quarantining people to improve their immunity to fight against corona but on contrary is not providing them with good quality food for improving immune system. They are saying we are making 1000 beds 1500 beds so does it means they are waiting for us to come on those beds? It’s my request to government please do something useful and essential for people and mainly for police and others working for them.”

So this is how he shared his experience, and requests people to provide food to officials working in their locality and requests government to do something essentially beneficial for people and officials working on field.
