Maharashtra Day is traditionally celebrated on May 1 which also marks as Labour Day. Notably, It was on On May 1, 1960, that the Bombay Reorganization Act came into effect. This act was a result amid protests and movements that demanded a creation of an individual state. This demand for a separate state was first made by The Sanyukt Maharashtra Andolan.
To celebrate the day, various events are annually organised keeping in mind the rich culture and tradition of Maharashtra at the iconic Shivaji Park in Dadar
The event sees the gracious presence of the Mumbai Police, the Governor of the state, and other eminent personalities of the state who come together to bring in the Maharashtra Day.
Prior to the formation of Maharashtra, there existed Bombay which included people speaking four major languages including Marathi, Kutchi, Gujarati, and Konkani.
The erstwhile Bombay Province got divided into two States – Gujarat and Maharashtra with the Bombay Reorganization Act. The division of the states was done on the basis of the language that people spoke. Those speaking Kutchi and Gujarati, emerged as a part of Gujarat while those who spoke Marathi and Konkani turned out to be a part of Maharashtra.
The day is a public holiday as all schools, banks, and government offices remain closed on this day. Various organisations also hold formal events to award people like doctors, police officials, academicians and sports persons who are making the state proud with their contributions in respective field.

Know Shiv Kumar Jha. He embraced Politics as a Swayamsevak. At the time of Ram Naik ji’s voting period, he ventured into painting work. He was related to Amarkant Jha who was am officer of Legislative Assembly. Because of him and because of him and during Elections that Shiv Kumar Jha ventured into wall painting work. Gradually, as time passed by a riot erupted in Nagbhid over the Ram Temple issue. Shiv Kumar too got involved in the riot. In the year 1990 he joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Sakhariya Worker and started his work. In 1993 he shouldered the responsibility of this Ward No.23 and from that year, he has been the Corporator of Ward 23 . And in the year 1997, he rose to the position as Circle Officer in the District Office. His hard sincere work paid off finally and he got the chance to do undertake social work for the people in Bharatiya Janata Party.
In the same year i.e 1993, as Corporator of his Ward, during the reign of UP’s Union Minister Respected Ram Naik Ji , he received 14 lakhs and he purchased a 12 inch pipe.
At that time around, builders went into a demolition spree of the slum areas to capture the land. As part of his service for the people he joined BJP in a full fledged manner for rendering service for the needy people. For the10 years till date he is the Corporator of Poisar Kandivli .
In 2017, Shweta Yadav become the Corporator because of OBC. Thereafter, he contested again in the 2017 Election and people in large numbers voted for him got him elected as a Corporator. According to him, the youths should embrace Politics without which there is nothing in life.
Be it in office or family, there is politics everywhere. Where Politics doesn’t mean a luxury life with cars, money so too Home politics means to surrender ourselves in service towards others.
Ahead of Maharashtra Day on 1 May, he conveys a message to the people that, “Maharashtra Day and Labour Day is celebrated on the same day. On this auspicious Day of Maharashtra Day and Labour Day, he expresses his Wishes to everyone ‘All The Best’ all the labour. He offers prayers to Goddess Mumbadevi to Bless one and all including the labourers for healthy and prosperous life.
