Maharashtra Day is traditionally celebrated on May 1 which also marks as Labour Day. Notably, It was on On May 1, 1960, that the Bombay Reorganization Act came into effect. This act was a result amid protests and movements that demanded a creation of an individual state. This demand for a separate state was first made by The Sanyukt Maharashtra Andolan.

To celebrate the day, various events are annually organised keeping in mind the rich culture and tradition of Maharashtra at the iconic Shivaji Park in Dadar

The event sees the gracious presence of the Mumbai Police, the Governor of the state, and other eminent personalities of the state who come together to bring in the Maharashtra Day.

Prior to the formation of Maharashtra, there existed Bombay which included people speaking four major languages including Marathi, Kutchi, Gujarati, and Konkani.

The erstwhile Bombay Province got divided into two States – Gujarat and Maharashtra with the Bombay Reorganization Act. The division of the states was done on the basis of the language that people spoke. Those speaking Kutchi and Gujarati, emerged as a part of Gujarat while those who spoke Marathi and Konkani turned out to be a part of Maharashtra.

The day is a public holiday as all schools, banks, and government offices remain closed on this day. Various organisations also hold formal events to award people like doctors, police officials, academicians and sports persons who are making the state proud with their contributions in respective field.

Leena Patel :

Famous As : Politian

Party : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

Ward No. 30

Meet Leena Patel, Corporator, Ward No 30. She is associated with Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) since the year 1984. At that time around, Rambhau Naik was the MLA BJP.

In admiration of PM Narendra Modi , Rambhau Naik, Atal Bihari Vajpayee ,she thought that this party was good enough for ladies. As a matter of pride, till now, ladies are respected in this party, hence joined the Party. Her prime motive to join the party was to do more and more social work for the people and to solve their problems.

Once she visited Bal Ashram in 1995-96 and saw that unwanted, undesirable, child born were given up to this Ashram from where they were adopted by good citizens.
Loving social work for all community, Leena Patel thought of bringing this children at her house and nurture them in homely environment with help of ber Mother-in-law and three Sister-in-laws. In the year 1991 Leena Patel used to even teach children of construction site labours and give them admission in BMC running school at Shimpoli Village and SV Road, BMC runs telugu schools. Labours of construction site used to consume alcohol, Leena Patel would consul them in evening and tried to remove addiction from them.

For all this social work Leena was awarded mayor award for her nobel cause for society in the year 2004 by Mayor Datta Dalviji. On Recomitation of late respected Smt. Shailajatai Girkar.

So for undertaking Social Work, she joined BJP. By doing such worthy work, BJP party appointed her as Vice-President of “Mahila Morcha” of Borivali and District Minister, thereafter Member of Legislative Assembly, then as General Secretary of Mahila Morcha of Borivali. As of today she is the Vice-President of Legislative Assembly.

She expresses her gratitude to her BJP Party for all the Best they have done for her. In the year 2017, the BJP Party had suggested her to contest the elections, and with the support from the BJP Leaders, She contested the election. She is all praise for the Citizens of Borivli Ward No.30 for their cooperation and support.

Ironically, water logging in the area of her Ward, was the main problem that she encountered. So in the unearthly hour at 1:00 am her Member Mihir Acharya accompanied by Ward Officer Gaikwad and the Disaster Management team visited the area and solved the problem by remodelling it. Till now there is no water logging.

Thereafter, in Namah Hospital, Goraswadi Road, New Season Hotel, Vasant Aishwarya, Iraniwadi Road No 2, water logging was the similar problem. The team similarly, remodeled the drain on SV Road ,and solved that problem too.

At in Anand Sarita, Anand Sanket, Umang Building the same perennial water logging exists. They have started the work and before the onset of monsoon, hopefully they will complete the water logging work thus ensuring of no further water logging this monsoon and henceforth.

Leena Patel also visited Ward No. 30 seven to eight times. There was a sewer problem and Leena summoned the Engineers from the Worli Hub, P-North , R-South who all came and solved Sewage problem that existed for last five years. Roads which are left for asphalating which is one in Kasturba Cross Road, Ram gali and Pravin Rami Road, are left.

Notably, in the year 2017, there was a lot of water problem in her Ward. The area used to get only half or 1 foot water.

There was acused water problem in ward 30 due to the water is fagant from the water reservoir from P-north and R south which is both fagant. But due to looping of 6 inch, 9 inch, 12 inch line, a new line of 2 feet from Abhilakh Nagar is given and now 90% of the water problem is solved in her area .

The main problem which Leena Patel couldn’t solve till now is of tenanted building where the land owner is one person, second is the imla Malak, and third are the occupiers for which the plan of temporary transit camp is to be uploaded online by architect due to which these tenanted building citizens do not afford to take Noc of SWA, SWT ,fire and etc etc . So this process should go offline. As it is a temporary transit camp which are going to get renewal after every 6 months.

The main problem which Leena Patel couldn’t solve till now, was at a time when Ex Cheif Minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra.
On 21st January 2019, he had made an amendment 499 but there is a problem emerging from BMC.

The Municipal Comissioner has not given the permission. He had only said, to give BMC the authority letter , then for the Building Proposal, you have to follow the online procedure.
Even as Leena Patel is following, sadly, there is neither any response nor an helping hand from their side. This remains her main problem to be solved. Another problem is at SVP Garden which is 60-70 years old. So she has asked for the redevelopment of this garden, but from last year BMC is not giving any response..

In Malad (West) Goraswadi , she has appealed to BMC’s Vocational Training School but that proposal has not yet been approved by the BMC till now. Ahead of Maharashtra Day on 1 May, Leena Patel transmits a special Message that “1st May is Celebrated as a Labour Day. Hence, the third class and fourth should be considered as human being. Whatever facilities are accorded to the Minister should be given to them too.

Finally, With the help of respected MP Gopal Shetty ji , Mla Yogesh Bhai Sagar the workers have got a roof over their head (a house) to stay. But, there is a need to increase humanity and standard of living. And BJP Party, with the respective Corporators , MLA’s must help to care for their livelihood in a good and true perspective.
