Mumbai, 23rd October 2024– The Council of EU Chamber of Commerce was honored to host H.E. Róbert Maxián, Ambassador of Slovakia to India, for an enlightening presentation on Slovakia’s position as a strategic destination for trade and investment. The event, attended by business leaders from diverse sectors, showcased Slovakia’s potential as a dynamic trade partner for India.
Mr. Robin Banerjee, Senior Vice President extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Maxián and Mr. Amit Choksey, Honorary Consul of Slovakia in Mumbai.
Dr. Renu Shome , Director presented an overview of the Chamber’s recent activities and shared insights from a successful delegation trip to Slovakia in 2015, which featured productive meetings and culminated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO).
Ambassador Maxián highlighted Slovakia’s central position in Europe, granting access to over 600 million customers within a 2,000 km radius, and underscored the country’s strengths, including a high export-to-GDP ratio of 92.4% and a leading position in automotive production per capita. “Slovakia is a gateway to Europe for Indian businesses,” he noted, emphasizing Slovakia’s potential as a key partner.
As bilateral trade between India and Slovakia continues to grow—projected to exceed €1 billion in 2024—areas for further collaboration include automotive, green hydrogen, and cybersecurity. Slovak companies, such as MicroStep-MIS and WTR, have already established a strong presence in India, offering solutions in climate monitoring and sustainable wastewater treatment.
The event concluded with an optimistic outlook on expanding Indo-Slovak partnerships, enhancing trade, and fostering new opportunities for business leaders from both nations.
The event was attended by City based Businessman, Exporters, Industrialists, Film Producers, Education Consultants, Traders and Manufacturers.
