Hello Mumbai City Desk
Mumbai, June 3, 2025:
Cutchi Memon jamat trustee Mr. Amin Gulam Chataiwala has issued a strong public appeal demanding immediate action and a high-level inquiry by the Maharashtra Waqf Board into the allegedly illegal sale of the Bazaarwala Building (also known as Chawal Gali), located at Zakaria Masjid Street, Mandvi Division.

The property, bearing C.S. No. 1398 and measuring approximately 334.45 sq. meters, is a tenanted Waqf trust property. In 2012, the building was allegedly sold to Neena Realtors Pvt. Ltd. by the Zakaria Masjid Trust, without securing a valid No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Maharashtra Waqf Board — a violation of the Waqf Act, which prohibits the sale of trust property to private entities without due process.

Chataiwala pointed out that the Maharashtra Waqf Board itself had issued a Show Cause Notice on 28th December 2020, clearly stating that no NOC had been issued in connection with the redevelopment of the Bazaarwala Building.
This strongly indicates that a fake or forged NOC may have been submitted by the trustees to the developer at the time of the transaction.
Despite the seriousness of the issue, Chataiwala expressed concern over the delay in legal proceedings and inquiry from the Waqf Board’s side.
He has called upon the general public to raise their voice and demand accountability by emailing key members of the Maharashtra Waqf Board and urging them to take immediate and firm action.
The public is requested to send their concerns and demands for a high-level inquiry to the following Waqf Board officials:
1. Mr. Juned Sayyad, Chief Executive Officer
📧 Email: ceomsbw@gmail.com
2. Maulana Hafiz Syed Athar Ali, Board Member
📧 Email: sayedatherali@yahoo.com
3. Advocate Syed Iftekhar Ali Hashmi, Legal Expert
📧 Email: iftekharwaqfboard@gmail.com
4. Sameer Gulamnabi Kazi, Board Member

Cutchi Memon jamat (Mumbai) manages many masjid trusts like Haji Adam Siddick Charitable trust (Madanpura Sunni Badi Masjid & it’s properties) and Kadwani Masjid trust (Handiwali masjid & it’s properties).
Amin Chataiwala emphasized, “We urge the community to actively participate in seeking justice and transparency. This is not just about one building—it is about protecting Waqf property and ensuring the law is upheld.”
