Mumbai Police Announce Security Arrangements for BMC Elections 2026

The Mumbai Police have announced elaborate security arrangements to ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly conduct of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2026. According to an official press note issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Brihanmumbai, polling will be held on January 15, 2026, while vote counting is scheduled for January 16, 2026.
In view of the large-scale civic elections and to maintain law and order across the city, the Mumbai Police have deployed a massive security force under the guidance of the Police Commissioner and senior officers. The arrangements are aimed at ensuring a secure environment during polling as well as the counting process.
As per the official statement, on polling day the Mumbai Police will deploy 10 Additional Commissioners of Police, 33 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 48 Assistant Commissioners of Police, along with more than 3,000 police officers and over 25,000 police personnel across the city. Special attention has been given to sensitive and critical locations.
The police deployment includes the use of SRPF platoons, Quick Response Teams (QRT), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), RCP platoons, Home Guards, and other specialised units to prevent any untoward incidents. These forces will be stationed at polling booths, counting centres, and other important locations to ensure smooth conduct of the electoral process.
The Mumbai Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the administration and follow all guidelines issued during the election period. For any emergency or immediate police assistance, citizens have been advised to contact the Mumbai Police helpline numbers 100 or 112.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to conducting the BMC Elections 2026 in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, assuring voters that all necessary measures have been taken to safeguard public safety and democratic processes.
While Speaking with Hello Mumbai News Mr Prashant Pardesi Deputy Commissioner of Police South Region (Traffic) said As Mumbai Traffic police also a part of Mumbai Police so we are also on alert on Polling day,if we talk about south region which covers area from Colaba to Parel,there will be 60 to 70 traffic ridders around the corner of polling booth,there will be 300 traffic Cops,11 Police Inspector,2 Acps and one DCP who will monitor the traffic situation in south region.
Prashant Pardesi further states, Zero Parking arrangements and free flow traffic will be our priority,we are asured to all Mumbaikars they will not face any traffic jaam problem on polling day. I also appeal to the people to come out from their homes and cast their votes, Mumbai police are assuring them for all safety and security.

Mumbai Traffic Police on High Alert to Ensure Smooth Movement on Polling Day: DCP Prashant Pardeshi
With polling for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections approaching, the Mumbai Traffic Police have stepped up preparations to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety on voting day.
Speaking exclusively to Hello Mumbai News, Mr. Prashant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), South Region, said that the Traffic Police, as an integral part of the Mumbai Police, will remain on full alert throughout polling day.
Elaborating on the arrangements in the South Region, which covers areas from Colaba to Parel (East ) DCP Pardeshi said that special traffic management plans have been put in place around polling booths. “There will be 60 to 70 traffic riders deployed near polling stations, supported by a dedicated force of around 300 traffic police personnel. Additionally, 11 Police Inspectors, 2 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), and one DCP will be actively monitoring traffic conditions across the region,” he stated.
DCP Pardeshi further emphasised that zero-parking enforcement and ensuring free-flowing traffic will be the top priorities on polling day. He assured citizens that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent congestion and traffic jams during voting hours.
“We want to assure all Mumbaikars that they will not face traffic-related inconveniences on polling day. Our teams will be deployed on the ground to ensure smooth movement across key routes,” he added.
Appealing to citizens, DCP Pardeshi urged voters to step out of their homes and participate in the democratic process without hesitation. “Mumbai Police are fully prepared and committed to ensuring the safety, security, and convenience of all voters,” he said.
The proactive traffic arrangements are aimed at facilitating hassle-free movement across South Mumbai, enabling voters to reach polling booths safely and on time during the BMC Elections.

Mumbai Police Ban Drone Operations Near Juhu Airport Till March 15
Mumbai Police have imposed a temporary ban on the operation of drones, RPAS, paragliders, and other aerial devices in areas surrounding Juhu Airport, citing public safety and security concerns. The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
The restriction covers sensitive areas in Andheri, Vile Parle, Santacruz, and adjoining regions, where the use of drones and aerial surveillance equipment has been prohibited without prior permission. The ban will remain in force from January 15, 2026, to March 15, 2026.
Mumbai Police stated that the move aims to prevent potential threats to aviation safety and public order. Citizens have been urged to cooperate and report any suspicious drone activity to the police.
