BMC Elections 2026: Mumbai Police Ensure Tight Security in Zone 4, Says DCP Ragasudha R

As Mumbai prepares for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled for January 15, millions of voters are expected to exercise their democratic right to elect representatives for Asia’s largest municipal corporation. In view of the massive turnout, Mumbai Police have put in place extensive security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and fair polling process.
Hello Mumbai News had an exclusive interaction with Deputy Commissioner of Police Ragasudha R, Zone 4, who outlined the elaborate security measures planned for polling day, particularly in her jurisdiction.


Speaking to Hello Mumbai News, DCP Ragasudha R said that the police force is fully prepared to provide comprehensive security and protection to voters and the general public. Zone 4 covers three Assembly constituencies and major parts of South-Central Mumbai, including Wadala, Intaphill, Matunga, Sion, and R.A. Kidwai Marg.
“To prevent any untoward incidents, adequate police personnel have been deployed across the zone. Surveillance will also be carried out through drone monitoring systems in sensitive areas,” DCP Ragasudha R stated.
She further informed that preventive action has been taken against antisocial elements under Sections 126, 129, and 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNNS). Notices have been served to over 100 individuals with criminal backgrounds to deter unlawful activities during the election period.

DCP Ragasudha R emphasized that every polling booth will be under videography surveillance, with police personnel stationed at all polling centers. “If anyone attempts to take the law into their own hands, strict legal action will be initiated. Our objective is to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful, free, and fair manner,” she said.
To reinforce law and order, flag marches have also been conducted in select areas within the zone at Wadala, Intaphill RA Kidwai Marg and Sion to instill confidence among citizens and send a strong message to miscreants.
In a separate statement, DCP Ragasudha R reiterated that extensive law and order arrangements have been planned under the guidance of the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the supervision of the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Mumbai. Special security measures have been implemented not only for polling day but also for vote counting day.
Appealing to the public, she urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities and promptly report any suspicious activities or emergencies. For immediate police assistance, citizens have been advised to contact the Mumbai Police helpline.

Brief Introduction About Zone 4 :

Zone 4 holds significant strategic importance in South-Central Mumbai, encompassing key areas such as Matunga, Sion, Wadala, R.A. Kidwai Marg, Bhoiwada, Kalachowki and Intaphill. The jurisdiction covers two Assembly constituencies and as many as 22 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wards. Given the scale of the electoral process in this zone, two counting centres have been designated to manage the vote-counting exercise efficiently. Notably, more than 300 candidates from various political parties are contesting the elections, underscoring the zone’s political significance and the need for robust administrative and security arrangements.
