Hello Mumbai City Desk
Mumbai
In the immediate aftermath of the municipal election results, the political circles in Maharashtra were plunged into shock by a series of tragic developments. Soon after the results were declared, Neela Desai, the first woman MLA of the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction), passed away following a cardiac arrest, sending waves of grief across party lines.
Even as the state was coming to terms with this loss, another heartbreaking piece of news emerged. Raj K. Purohit, senior BJP leader, former Cabinet Minister and former President of the Mumbai BJP, passed away at the age of 69.
According to sources, Purohit’s health had deteriorated over the past few days, following which he was admitted to Bombay Hospital in Mumbai for treatment. Despite sustained medical care, he breathed his last during treatment, leaving the BJP and the wider political fraternity in deep mourning.
A seasoned politician with decades of public service behind him, Raj K. Purohit was widely respected for his organisational skills and his role in strengthening the BJP’s presence in Mumbai. His demise marks the end of an era in the city’s political landscape.
With two senior political figures passing away within a short span of time, the post-election atmosphere in Maharashtra has been overshadowed by sorrow, as leaders across parties expressed condolences and paid tribute to the departed leaders.
