Haji Mudassar Patel Seeks Immediate Relief for Kurla–Trombay Slum Residents After Central Railway Notice

Hello Mumbai City Desk
Mumbai: In a decisive move to safeguard the interests of thousands of vulnerable families, Haji Mudassar Patel, Vice President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to seek immediate relief for residents affected by demolition notices issued by Central Railway.

The railway administration recently served notices for the removal of slum settlements located along the Kurla–Trombay (Burmasel) railway line, placing over 2,250 houses at risk. The development has triggered widespread anxiety among families who have reportedly been residing in the area for nearly 25 years.
Raising the matter at the highest level, Haji Mudassar Patel submitted a formal letter to the Chief Minister urging urgent intervention and the formulation of a permanent rehabilitation plan. During the meeting, Devendra Fadnavis assured him that appropriate steps would be taken to address the concerns of the affected residents.
Demonstrating continued follow-up on the issue, Patel also travelled to New Delhi to escalate the matter with senior railway authorities. He submitted a memorandum at the office of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and met Additional Secretary Vikas Jain to press for reconsideration of the demolition process.
Back in Mumbai, Patel held discussions with senior officials of Central Railway, including the Divisional Railway Manager, urging them to halt the demolition drive until a humane and structured rehabilitation mechanism is put in place.
Speaking on the issue, Haji Mudassar Patel described Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as a compassionate leader committed to the welfare of Maharashtra’s citizens. He expressed confidence that under the Chief Minister’s leadership, the state government would ensure justice and long-term rehabilitation for the affected families.

Patel emphasized that issuing demolition notices with limited time for compliance is unjust and has created fear among thousands of economically weaker residents. He highlighted that representatives of Adarsh Foundation and the Indira Nagar Development Committee had approached him seeking support, prompting his intervention.

The notice, issued on January 27, was followed by Patel’s written appeal to the Chief Minister on February 6 and subsequent personal meeting. He reiterated his demand that authorities act with sensitivity and humanity, ensuring that any action taken aligns with Maharashtra government policies and safeguards the dignity and livelihood of the displaced families.

Through his sustained engagement with state and central authorities, Haji Mudassar Patel has positioned himself at the forefront of efforts to secure relief and permanent rehabilitation for the affected residents.
