Appeal from the Indian Diaspora in Ukraine
Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-ji,
We, the undersigned, represent a consolidated and dedicated community of Indian businessmen, families, and students living in Ukraine. Our Indian values have taught us tol ove Ukraine, the country of our domicile. Ukraine today is suffering from military aggressiona nd occupation by the Russian Federation. Starting from February 24, 2022, we have beena ttacked from all sides of our borders by the Russian Armed Forces. Missile attacks and airr aids target not only military infrastructures but also innocent civilians, including children andf oreigners, who have lost their lives due to unreasonable aggression and cruelty. Since the end
of the Second World War in Europe, such devastation and forced displacement of the population has been unprecedented.
India is known for its humanist traditions and our principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,
which are transmitted through our art, culture, philosophy, and history. Truth is the highest value, equal to righteousness and supreme beauty: Satyam – Shivam – Sundaram. We have
been the bearers of this philosophy for centuries. It is painful to see how truth, righteousness,
and the beauty of life are being devastated brutally. It is equally disheartening to witness the
infringement on the territorial integrity and self-determination of the neighboring nation,
undermining its right to independence and sovereignty.
We are proud of your rejection of the use of force in any dispute, especially in the context of
Ukraine, and we are proud to join in upholding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of
Ukraine.
At this saddest hour for humanity, we appeal to Your Excellency to give an appropriate Indian
humanist response to this heinous situation. We respectfully request your support in the peace
efforts concerning the Russian-Ukrainian war. Your leadership and intervention could
significantly contribute to bringing about a resolution and restoring peace in the most
righteous manner, and thereby it will highlight India’s commitment to humanist and
democratic values.
We are eagerly anticipating your upcoming visit to Kyiv in August 2024, the first by an Indian
Prime Minister since 1982. The Indian diaspora in Ukraine wholeheartedly welcomes this
historic occasion. Our entire diaspora will be delighted to meet with Your Excellency during
your visit. Your presence and support would significantly strengthen the bonds between our
nations and reinforce our commitment to peace and justice.
