Brief Introduction of Navin Shah :
Navin Shah is the London Assembly Member representing Brent and Harrow and he’s the first ever British Indian to be the Chair of the London Assembly. His constituency in North-West London houses the world’s iconic Wembley Football Stadium and Harrow Public School where Jawaharlal Nehru – India’s first Prime Minster was educated. Navin is proud that his constituency has the highest population of people of Indian origin in the UK and that it is the most religiously diverse area in UK.
Navin now in his 13th year as the London Assembly Member was also a Harrow Councillor for 20 years and was Leader of Harrow Council – the first ever British Indian to hold this position. Navin, a proud Labour Party member, has been a grassroots worker known for his work against racism and struggle for achieving the illusive equality for the BAME communities. As the London Assembly Member, he holds the Mayor of London to account and fights the corner for the wellbeing of his constituents and Londoners.
Commenting on the Covid-19 vaccinations Navin said ,
“Procurement and distribution of vaccines are essential as it brings real hope of controlling and tackling the pandemic. I’m pleased that we are the first country to have commenced the vaccination but the real test for the government is to do it systematically, effectively and speedily. I also look forward to the procurement of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. So, a great start but a long way to go before safety and normality is achieved.”
Navin enjoys festivals and outlining his plans for Christmas Navin said,
“London’s rich diversity of faith gives us great opportunity to enjoy all festivals and in my nearly 50 years in the UK I’ve made the most of such opportunities. I’m not a religious person but I enjoy celebrations and the values they represent. So, I’ve got my traditional natural Christmas Tree and will be enjoying the drinks and lavish meal. Like the Diwali this year it will strictly be a celebration enjoyed in the comfort of my home. I urge all Londoners to do the same. By staying at home this Christmas and New Year we’d be saving lives. We all need to play our part so please comply with the restrictions over the festivity period and beyond. On the G7 summit related visit of the Prime Minister Johnson to India in January, Navin said ,
“India and the UK have historical and cultural ties which I cherish. I hope that the PM uses his visit as an opportunity to forge stronger trade relations in the post-Brexit environment. This is also a platform to forge stronger bond between the two countries and people.”
