MCGM Pulls Down Awareness Banner Regarding Potholes in Mumbai While Local Neta’s Banner Remains Intact!
Mumbai city is marred with potholes and these potholes have tragically killed several people and injured many. In fact, this year even Ganesh Mandals are highlighting the serious issue of the pothole in Mumbai. However, MCGM is giving a blind eye to the grave issue and even trying to curb this awareness drive.
A picture of MCGM’s apathy to potholes in Mumbai was exposed recently in Andheri on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, when MCGM officers’ forcibly removed a banner of Ganesh Utsav creating awareness about potholes in Mumbai! Surprisingly while the MCGM officers removed the Ganesh Mandal’s banner creating awareness about potholes; a banner of a political Neta was left intact thus proving MCGM’s apathy to solve the pothole problems in Mumbai.
It may be noted that a Mumbai resident, Navin Lade, General Secretary of the employment wing of the Republican Party of Indian (RPI) is on the move in the city counting the pothole and is planning to get Mumbai’s name entered in the famous Guinness Book of World Records as ‘Mumbai –The City with the Most Number of Potholes’. Thousands of Mumbaikar have extended support to Lade through Social Media like Twitter and Instagram however what is most encouraging is that most of the Ganesh Mandals in Mumbai this year have supported Lade and have collectively focused on the theme – ‘Mumbai’s Potholes towards Record Book’ and put banners across Mumbai to garner Mumbaikar’s support to make Mumbai Pothole Free.
Angry at MCGM’s demolition of a Ganesh Mandal banner at Andheri station, Navin Lade told Hello Mumbai, “If MCGM has demolished the Ganesh Mandal banner on the charge of defacing the city then why did they not remove the Corporator’s banner? MCGM officers did not even touch the Neta’s banner as their target was just the pothole awareness banner against MCGM. This indifference is disgusting and shows MCGM is aggravated and trying to cover its pothole blunders. Each year MCGM loots people’s money by making substandard pothole and take people’s life.”
Lade lamented, “Lots of lives are lost due to these inferior potholes. Isn’t the MCGM aware of it but still it maintains silence? But this time it cannot stop people’s movement against pothole drive.”
Lade informed, “MCGM’s demolition action has made the people of Mumbai angry. There is strong protest among the people for removing the awareness banner of potholes. It is clear MCGM is trying to curb the people’s movement against pothole.”
It may be noted that the banner was at Andheri- Kurla road where ‘Andhericha Vighnaharta’ is held each year by Andheri’s biggest Mandal Ganpati. At the time of demolition even Vikram Singh, President of Andhericha Vighnaharta’ was present. He told Hello Mumbai, “The MCGM officers had intentionally come to remove our banner hence they threatened us to remove or they would pull it down.”
