MUMBAI, August 16 : A special exhibition highlighting India’s freedom struggle and the life, contributions and patriotism of freedom fighter and former Mumbai Public Works Department Minister Barrister Mohammad Yasin Nurie was inaugurated in Mumbai on the occasion of Independence Day.

The exhibition, dedicated to both renowned and lesser-known heroes of India’s freedom movement, aims to introduce the younger generation to the country’s history, the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the values of patriotism, national unity and communal harmony.

Speakers at the inauguration stressed that it is important to make the younger generation aware of Barrister Mohammad Yasin Nurie’s national service, patriotic spirit and contribution to Mumbai and the country.

The exhibition features more than 200 frames containing rare photographs, historical documents, letters, newspaper clippings, articles and other archival material related to Barrister Nurie’s public life and national contributions. His published work and other significant material relating to his life have also been displayed.

NGMA Director and IAS officer Nidhi Choudhari highlighted Barrister Nurie’s contribution to Mumbai’s development. She said that in 1937, when Nurie was serving as Mumbai’s Public Works Department Minister, he had proposed the construction of the Queen Nackles Bridge at Marine Lines. She also referred to his role in the development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.

The exhibition also highlights Barrister Nurie’s decision to remain in India during the Partition. Despite the option of moving to Pakistan, he chose to stay in India. Speakers paid tribute to his patriotism, commitment to the country and belief in national unity.

Barrister Nurie’s grandson and Industrialist  Owais Nurie said the exhibition was an important initiative to preserve and present his grandfather’s legacy to the younger generation. He said the more than 200 frames document his life through historical letters, newspaper clippings, photographs, articles and other archival records.
Owais Nurie emphasised that exhibitions of this nature can help young people better understand India’s history and the contributions of important national figures. He also stressed the need to preserve the country’s historical heritage and pass the stories of the freedom struggle on to future generations.

Addressing the gathering, Haj Committee of India Chief Executive Officer IAS Shehnawaz C. said that people must first know and understand their history. Referring to Barrister Mohammad Yasin Nurie, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other freedom fighters, he said that those who made sacrifices for the country were the nation’s real heroes.

IAS Shehnawaz thanked NGMA Director IAS Nidhi Choudhari for inviting him to the programme and giving him an opportunity to be part of the historic exhibition.
He also appealed to people to respect one another and promote love, brotherhood and communal harmony, while avoiding divisions based on religion or region. He said unity must remain one of the country’s fundamental values and that India’s strength lies in its diversity of cultures and religions and its ability to remain united despite those differences.

The exhibition was attended by several prominent personalities and dignitaries, including Anjuman-I-Islam President Dr Zaheer Qazi and Maulana Azad Financial Corporation Chairman Mushtaq Antulay , Mansoor khan National president Sufi of Islamic Board,Dr Sureina Malhotra and Retired ACP Rehana Shaikh.

The programme conveyed a strong message of patriotism, national unity, communal harmony, mutual respect and brotherhood.
