Mumbai: Mumbai and its sub-urban areas have received extreme rainfall during the last 24 hours. Rainfall till 0830 hours IST of today: Thane-28cm, Santacruz-20.1cm, Colaba-13cm.
Forecast- Intense to the very intense spell of rainfall is very likely during the next 3-hours – According to India Meteorological Department (IMD). Received heavy rainfall in Mumbai and the rest of the Konkan region for the second consecutive day on Saturday, causing severe waterlogging and massive traffic disruptions in several areas. Waterlogging in various low – lying locales went on till late on Saturday and BMC workers struggled to pump water out. A yellow alert, indicating heavy rain at isolated places, was issued for parts of Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad for Sunday.
On the 5th of July, 0830 IST; thunderstorm with rain and wind speed of 20-40 KMPH would over and adjoining areas of few places of entire Delhi, Narwana, Kaithal, Rohtak, Gohana, Panipat, Karnal, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Jhajjar, Mahenergarh, Kosli, Rewari, Bhiwari, Narnaul, Meerut, Hapur, Etah, Badaun during the next two hours tweeted by IMD. While it’s Santacruz observatory recorded 132.2mm in 12 hours starting from 8.30 am on Saturday, its Colaba observatory recorded 74.6mm.
Widespread heavy rainfall was witnessed across Mumbai in the last 24 hours, IMD Mumbai’s deputy director general K S Hosalikar tweeted on Saturday.Another heavy RF day for Mumbai & west coast today,” he said on Twitter.
After 8.30 am on Saturday, the city and its surrounding areas recorded moderate rainfall of 25 mm to 30 mm, Hosalikar added.
A period of heavy rain proceeded in Mumbai and its neighboring cities for the third successive day on Sunday, resulting in severe water-logging and traffic disruptions in various facets of the city. A high tide of 4.63 meters is expected at the Mumbai coastline at 12.23 pm. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has requested Mumbaikars to stay away from the shore.
Thane received the maximum rainfall (213.3mm) on Saturday and two incidents of wall collapse were also reported. Mumbai’s Kandivali also witnessed heavy pouring (184.3mm). A high tide of 4.41 meters was witnessed at Marine Drive on Saturday morning.
Due to heavy rain and thunderstorm, a tree fell in Thane’s Talav Pali, crushing three cars. No casualties or injuries were reported, damaging three cars.
As Mumbai and its neighbouring areas have been experiencing heavy rains from Friday, the IMD deputy director of Meteorology, KS Hosalikar, tweeted that the city has recorded more than 200mm of rains in the last 24 hours. “Models r indicating that the heavy RF to continue today. Entire west coast too,” he added.
In the last few days, severe instances of waterlogging and tree-falling have been reported along with heavy traffic jams in different parts of Mumbai. The BMC’s official Twitter handle has also been updating Mumbaikars about weather alerts and incidents of water-logging in several places in Mumbai.
