BJP is trying to finish reservations given to SC, ST, OBC: Balasaheb Thorat
Congress will launch state wide ‘BJP hatao, Arakshan Bachao’ rallies
Mumbai, 12 February 2020
RSS and BJP are anti-reservations and are trying to do away with the ST, SC, OBC reservation given by the constitution.
The Congress party will never allow this attempt to succeed and will launch a staunch fight against the BJP to protect the reservations, said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Commitee President and Revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat.
A huge ‘BJP hatao, Aarakshan Bachao’ rally was organised by the Congress party under the leadership of Balasaheb Thorat on Wednesday at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Mantralaya. Several leaders from the Congress party were present at the rally which includes Mumbai Congress president Eknath Gaikwad, energy minister Nitin Raut, women and child minister Yashomati Thakur, education minisyer Varsha Gaikwad, sports and youth welfare minister Sunil Kedar among others participated in the rally.
Thorat said that the BJP government in Uttarakhand and the Modi government in the Centre is trying to do away with the constitution given reservations to SC, ST and OBC.
The BJP government in Uttarakhand has told in the Supreme Court that to give reservations in jobs to SC, ST are not their constitutional responsibility.
Unfortunately the Supreme Court too said that whether a state wants to give reservation in jobs is up to them. This is the first step towards ending reservations.
Congress government has started the practice of giving SC, ST funds in proportion to their population. But the Modi government ended that practice and the SC, ST other OBC sub plan has been given lesser funds.
The government has also slashed the scholarships for the students.
