Mumbai: Lions Club spread across the country as well as overseas are known for their charitable work. They hold no discrimination towards caste, creed and religion and anybody is welcome that includes people in all professions, economic status who desire to serve the poor and needy people without any expectations in return for the service done which will be strictly honorary.
Speaking to Hello Mumbai News Team, Lions Club of Jogeshwari Vice President Pinky Chaudhari said that amid lockdown, herself and her club members distributed mask and sanitizer to schools and even police officers.
Proudly she emphasises that alongside her group members she has done charity work for almost Rs.1.5 Lakh including essential items like food, masks, sanitizers etc. These activities were mostly carried out in the month of March and April. Their Club has adopted Municipal Schools, and Lions Club Members teach students on how one member who is a doctor gives 24×7 assistance to students. In that school if anyone is found not feeling well they are provided with free medicines on produce of ID Card by the students of that School.
They even organize drawing competition, secret Santa Clause on Christmas and many other activities for the students.
What are her personal views on Covid-19? We all should have to live with it till such time any medicine or vaccine is made available. She appreciates the government for their good work by reaching out to people and taking care of those facing problem after contracting the virus. It is not possible for government to send all the migrant workers at the same time. There is a great opportunity for those who are unemployed as army is recruiting people for 3 years because of this covid-19,induced lockdown to ease unemployment.
Lions Club is 49 year old and will turn 50 next year. Her father and some other members floated this club it is one of the oldest club in Mumbai. There are many senior citizens who are helping them and their focus is mainly to educate people which is their ultimate Moto. Many members of this club are doctors who help them to reach people suffering from diseases or illness and cure them. Notably, their group has done lot of diabetic projects.,free checkups, and free screenings. They serve food to needy people who cannot afford in this difficult situation.
The message she want to address to the people is to be calm and not to lose hope. Eat well and do regular exercise. It will keep you fit and the best way to stay healthy is to wash hands with soap and keep sanitizing them.
