Mumbai Crime Branch Suspends Licences of 11 Orchestra Bars for 30 Days
Mumbai: In a major crackdown on establishments allegedly operating illegal dance bars under the guise of orchestra bars, the Mumbai Crime Branch has suspended the public entertainment licences of 11 orchestra bars for a period of 30 days.
The action comes in the wake of the Maharashtra Government’s announcement during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the State Legislature that it intends to introduce stricter legal provisions to curb obscene dance performances in orchestra bars across the state.

According to police officials, the establishments were allegedly misusing their Public Entertainment Licences by operating dance bars instead of permitted orchestra performances. During surprise inspections, female performers, presented as singers, were allegedly found wearing revealing attire, engaging in close physical interaction with customers, and performing obscene gestures and dance acts in violation of licence conditions.
Police further stated that several bars had created concealed doors, underground chambers, and secret compartments to hide performers during raids and evade law enforcement action.
Authorities have made it clear that obscenity and violations of public entertainment licence conditions will not be tolerated. They warned that any establishment found breaching licence terms or legal provisions in the future will face stringent action, including suspension or cancellation of licences and prosecution under applicable laws.

While addressing the media at the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mumbai Police Spokesperson Rajtilak Roshan said, “Based on the previous records of these establishments and the complaints received against them, we have suspended their licences for 30 days. We will continue to monitor their activities closely, and if they are found involved in similar illegal activities again or violating licence conditions, strict legal action will be initiated in accordance with the law.”
