Mumbai Rain: Pre-Monsoon Showers Lash Andheri, Borivali, and Eastern Suburbs

Hello Mumbai City Desk

MUMBAI — Several parts of Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed a sudden spell of heavy downpours early this morning, with the western suburbs bearing the brunt of the intense precipitation.

According to data recorded between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, the city experienced highly localized weather patterns, showing vast discrepancies in rainfall intensity across different zones.

Mumbai receives Pre Mansoon rainfall

The Civic body’s automated weather stations highlighted a stark contrast between regions. The western suburbs registered a significant average of 9.84 mm of rain within the single hour. Meanwhile, the eastern suburbs tracked a modest 1.25 mm, and the island city remained largely bypassed, recording a negligible 0.96 mm.

Western Suburbs Hit Hardest

Within the western belt, pocket areas reported torrential downpours that quickly accumulated high localized totals. Versova topped the list with a massive 69 mm of rainfall in the early hour, followed closely by Vile Parle and Andheri.

A closer look at the localized data reveals the heaviest hit pockets:

Location Rainfall Recorded (7 AM – 8 AM)
Versova 69 mm
Vile Parle (Peak) 52 mm
Andheri East 49 mm
Andheri West 46 mm
Vile Parle (Secondary Station) 33 mm
Santacruz 30 mm

Local Impact Note: In addition to these figures, northern patches of the western suburbs—including Dahisar, Borivali, Bhayandar, and Malad—also reported heavy, continuous rainfall during the commute hour, leading to brief slow-downs on local arterial roads.

Mild Activity in Eastern Suburbs

In contrast to the intense downpours in the west, the eastern suburbs saw much lighter activity. Chembur registered the highest volume in this zone, albeit with a relatively mild 12 mm of rainfall.

Municipal authorities are monitoring low-lying areas for potential waterlogging, though no major transit disruptions have been officially reported yet. Residents are advised to keep an eye on real-time weather updates as localized clouds continue to move across the metropolitan region.
