Hello Mumbai Maharashtra Desk
NASHIK – In a significant administrative overhaul, the Maharashtra state government has appointed Amit Ranjan (IAS: 2022) as the new Additional Municipal Commissioner of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). The move comes as part of a broader reshuffle involving 11 high-ranking Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across the state, aimed at streamlining urban governance and departmental efficiency.
Ranjan, a 2022-batch officer, previously served as the Project Officer at the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) in Pandharkawada and held the post of Assistant Collector in Yavatmal. His transition to the NMC is viewed as a strategic placement to bolster the city’s administration ahead of major upcoming urban infrastructure projects.
Key Administrative Shifts
The reshuffle also marks the departure of Karishma Nair (IAS: 2021), who served as the Additional Municipal Commissioner of Nashik since April 2025. During her tenure, Nair played a pivotal role in the preliminary planning for the Kumbh Mela, having been appointed as the commissioner of the newly formed Kumbh Mela Authority. She has now been reassigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zilla Parishad in Jalgaon.
Other notable changes in the reshuffle include:

Immediate Priorities for the NMC
The appointment of Amit Ranjan arrives at a critical juncture for Nashik. The city is currently navigating a period of heightened activity following the January 2026 Municipal Elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a dominant lead.
Ranjan is expected to work closely with NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri (IAS) to oversee:
-
Kumbh Mela Preparations: Managing the vast infrastructure roadmap for the religious event scheduled to begin with flag hoisting in October 2026.
-
Green Municipal Bonds: Implementation of the NMC’s series of green municipal bonds intended to fund sustainable urban development.
-
Civic Infrastructure: Addressing the immediate needs of the newly elected ward representatives and ensuring the seamless execution of the city’s development plan.
The state government’s notification emphasized that these transfers are part of a routine administrative process to ensure that young, dynamic officers are positioned in roles that require rigorous implementation of development initiatives.
