Needy People Entitled Under TPDS Deprived Of Ration: MPJ

Thousands of underprivileged section of society across the state gathered at Azad Maidan demanding their right for food after being deprived of the monthly ration!
Ramesh Kadam President of Movement For Peace and Justice For Welfare (MPJ) told media, “The constitution of India guarantees Right To Food hence there is the provision of monthly Ration at a discounted rate at PDS for the poor and middle-class people. But alas the truth is that in India’s most economically developed state of Maharashtra there is maximum death due to starvation.” He informed, “To tackle the problem of starvation in 2013 the state had started the National Food Security Act (NFSA) however despite the act people are dying of starvation because people are deprived of grains from ration shops.”
Shabbir Deshmukh, MPJ Chief of Mumbai told media, “We have received several complaints from the people alleging that they are not getting ration Under the Target Public Distribution System (TPDS). At many ration shops, the people are given grains less than their allocated quota. Hence poor people are forced to die of starvation. They run from pillar to post complaining but no government offal pays heed to their problems.”
It may be noted that MPJ had started an awareness movement from January 5, 2019, till 31 January 2019, during which they visited various districts of Maharashtra and studied the problem of starvation. Hence to awake the government and demand the rights of food for the people of the state MPJ had organized a huge Morcha at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
Mohammad Siraj, MPJ President of State said, “From 2014, ever since BJP government came into power the PDS system through which underprivileged and the poor used to get grains from ration shop has been stopped.” He added, “With the digitalization of PDS system a total of 2 crores and 87 lakh people are deprived of ration!”
Mohammad Siraj, added, “Hence we have demanded that poor people should get ration from PDS and the annual ration amount be increased from Rs 59,000 be increased to Rs 1 lakh and the orange Ration card holder deprived of ration from 2014 should be included !”.
