The almost two-week long strike of App-based cab drivers of Ola and Uber was called off on Friday night. However the drivers have called off the strike temporary till November 15 as a humanitarian gesture to help to avoid problem during Diwali celebration.
It may be noted that the State Transport and Minister Diwakar Raote held a meeting with Ola and Uber taxi driver’s union leaders at the Mantralaya. During the meeting the Ola and Uber taxi driver’s union leaders decided to call off the strike on condition that cab aggregators would make a new fare card price-per-kilometer, by mid-November. The fare must be such that it is profitable for cab drivers. Transport and Minister Diwakar Raote agreed hence the Ola and Uber taxi drivers union leaders called up the strike.
Briefing media, Sachin Bhosale from Maharashtra Rajya Kamgar Sangh said, “The companies have agreed our demands and assured us to make new fare card that earns us more profit. Meanwhile till November 15, both Ola and Uber will follow a Diwali-incentive scheme in which cab drivers will earn a profit on every ride.”
It may be noted Ola and Uber’s drivers have been on an indefinite strike since past 12 days. As many as 500 drivers of the Maharashtra Rajya Kamgar Sangh participated in the strike and even caused a huge traffic jam on Highways to send signals to the companies to pay attention to their demands. The drivers are demanding a hike to Rs 12 per km for micro cars, Rs 15 per km for Sedan and Rs 19 per km for SUVs.
The drivers have threatened to resume the strike on November 15 if their demands are not fulfilled.
