Orchid International School Teacher Accused in Corporal Punishment! Booked under Act for Cruelty!!
Corporal Punishment in India has been banned long back in 2000 yet it is tragic that physical abuse of children is rampant in many schools. What is shameful is that the crime is witnessed even in some of the reputed International schools. The latest victim of Corporal Punishment is a student Sidra Qureshi studying at Orchid International School located at Pala Gali Dongri. The child was beaten so mercilessly by her teacher that she was seriously injured and had to be rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Aggravated by the ruthless behavior of the teacher, Sidra Qureshi’s father Sajid Qureshi has lodged a police complaint demanding strict action against the accused teacher and the school principal for being haughty and not cooperative with the parents. Fumed at the school administration’s autocracy Sajid Qureshi told Hello Mumbai, “I am surprised at the heartless teacher. How can she beat a tender kid of grade II with such brutality?”
Informing about the incident Sajid Qureshi told Hello Mumbai, “On 23rd October when I reached school to pick up my daughter I was left shattered to find my daughter crying. When I asked her the reason she displayed her injury marks and informed that her teacher not only beat her but also insulted her in the class. I was shocked at the inhume behavior of the school teacher hence I lodged a police complaint at Dongri Police station after giving treatment to my daughter.”
It may be noted that Mr. Sajid Qureshi is a respected citizen of the society and an Editor of a weekly Newspaper. Qureshi informed, “I think my daughter has been intentionally targeted as I have filed a written complaint about the poor mismanagement of Bus Service and rude attitude of the school towards the parents. Hence the school is trying to silence me but I am not going to be suppressed and continue my battle”.
Sandip Bangdikar Senior Police Inspector of Dongri Police station said,” The teacher has been booked under Section 75 of Juvenile Justice (Care and protection of children) Act for cruelty to a juvenile child. We have also collected the CCTV footage of the incident and verifying it. We have also recorded the eyewitnesses’ statement. Further investigation is going on.”
