More than 230 students in Oshiwara were stranded as Corporator Rajul Patel shuts down the school just after two days after its opening all because she was not officially informed about a school opening in her constituency.
While speaking to Hello Mumbai, Patel admitted that she had indeed got the school shut. “This is my fourth term as corporator and I should’ve been informed about the school’s opening, but the school authorities didn’t feel the need to do so,” she said.
She quickly followed it up with a concern about cramped spaces for students.
Ashoke Pandit, chairman of Oshiwara Lokhandwala Citizens’ Association, which had fought in court the allotment of the land to the private trust, insisted that children should not face any damage. To reopen this school many parents staged a protest outside Oshiwara police station on Monday. After the protest it was decided that school will be opened on July 5’ said Captain Rakesh Coelo trustee of Oshiwara Lokhandwala Citizens’ Association.
We are poor where we will go and at this time admission in all schools closed nobody is ready to give us admission, said one of the parent to Hello Mumbai.
“It’s a question of the future of poor students and no one has the right to disturb their future our fight for the students will continue, it’s a failure of BMC and it’s education department,” added Captain.
