Rare Red Sand Boa Snake worth Rs 3 Crore rescued; 2 wildlife smugglers arrested!!
The Dahisar police have arrested two notorious wildlife smugglers who tried to smuggle into Mumbai a rare red sand boa snake which is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. The police got a tip-off and laid a trap and arrested Panduran Shantaram Pangam (40) and Salman Mubarakali (27) red-handed near an autorickshaw stand in Dahisar East.
It may be noted that the red sand boa snake is an endangered species and is known to bring good luck and wealth. Unit 12 In-Charge PI Sunil Jadhav, who led the team and arrested the accused, told Hello Mumbai, “Smuggling of red sand boa snake is common as it more expensive than the skin of tiger! The snake fetches a whopping Rs 3 to 4 crore in an International market like Malaysia and China.
Jadhav, added, “There is wide demand of this two mouth snake particularly due to blind –faith, superstition and its use in black magic. Also there is a myth that that snake helps to locate hidden treasures. In addition, in China, it is used to manufacture sex-enhancing drugs.”
The accused were held by Unit 12 team- comprising In charge PI Sunil Jadhav, PI Sachin Gawas, API Vikram Sinha Kadam, API Prakash Sawant, API Atul Avhad, ASI Vijay Kadam, HC Basara, PN Tawde and Bane
A Case has been registered vide DCP CID SPL LAC 20/18 u/s 39(3) r/w sec 51 Wildlife Protection Act 1972 at crime branch, Unit -12. The accused were produced court and were ordered 2 days PC.
