India is a democratic country hence everybody has the right to contest elections be it a standup comedian or sexy film actress or anybody. The only condition essential is a popular name that can attract people to vote! Thus Santosh Rai, who made headline after he extracted an apology from Bollywood film star Govinda for slapping him is now banking on his popularity and contesting Lok Sabha Election. It may be noted Santosh Rai would be contesting on a ticket Mahamukti Dal (North West Consitunecy)from Mumbai.
According to reports Santosh Rai, a die-hard Govinda’s fan had secretly entered into a film studio in Goregaon and tried to meet Govinda in 2009 but Govinda was so angry at him that he had slapped him. Upset at Govinda for the humiliation, Santosh had on February 2, 2009, filed the complaint under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (1) (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
However the Bombay High Court had declined justice to Santosh hence he had appealed in Supreme Court which took his said and ordered Govinda to apologize. Govinda had thus apologized.
The news made headlines and made Santosh Rai famous! Now taking advantage of his popularity Santosh Rai is contesting elections!!
