In 2024-25, DG Lion Saraswati Sankar entrusted me with a newly created post: District Focus Area Chairperson – Village Adoption Savare. This post is very important to her—it is her dream and goal to develop Village Savare. For me, it was a great honor, a big responsibility and also a challenge.
Savare consists of 36 padas and includes two villages—Savare and Ambure—with a total population of 8,000 to 9,000. The main source of income is rice farming, and the only water source is rain. So, Saraswati Ma’am arranged a CSR fund of nearly ₹1 crore for a water-lifting project to improve the village’s water supply. Her vision was to focus on one village and create a lasting impact of Lionism instead of doing service projects in multiple places. So she chose Savre and me to lead the project.
At first, I was unsure about where to start. After discussions with PDG Prashant Patil, we visited Savare many times, conducted surveys and spoke with the Sarpanch and villagers to understand their needs. Our first step was organizing a free medical check-up camp in Savare. On September 22, 2024, we arranged transport for 100+ Lion members, PDGs, club leaders, and members to visit Savare for this initiative.
With the help of & Lion K. Sankar, Lion Purushottam Somani & Yoginagar Club, Lion Tarun Jain
we achieved multiple goals:
* Two water-lifting projects completed, including one sponsored by Region 1. A solar-powered water-lifting system was installed at the river with the help of Lion K. Sankar.
* A well-equipped tractor worth ₹10 lakhs was handed over to the village, sponsored by Lion Tarun Jain, to support local farmers.
* Construction of a new community center is in progress.
* Cataract surgeries were performed for 20 villagers.
* Comprehensive medical check-ups were conducted across eight padas by the Lions Club of Seven Bungalows.
* 30 bicycles were distributed to girl students.
* 200 school children received geometry boxes and snacks, sponsored by Chinchni Tarapur & Mumbai Chhatrapati.
* 400 blankets and 200 sarees were distributed to needy villagers.
Upcoming Projects in Savare
* A medical center to provide healthcare services.
* A rice mill to support local farmers.
* Six more water-lifting projects to ensure water availability for agriculture and daily use.
Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of Savare’s villagers by improving their access to water, healthcare, education, and livelihoods. Our goal is to transform Savare into a model village and leave a lasting impact.
