It is not just a calendar date; it is a celebration of the resilience, grit, and innovation that defines the micro, small, and medium enterprise sector. As the founder of We Connect Club, I see this day as an acknowledgment of the “silent engines” of our economy. For me, it signifies the validation of the dream we started in 2005—to see ordinary individuals turn their passion into a profession.

​What inspired you to establish We Connect Club, and what vision drives the platform today?
Meera Ruia Binani:
​The inspiration was rooted in my neighborhood of Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. I saw so many talented homemakers who possessed incredible skills but lacked the platform or confidence to step into the business world. They were often held back by fear—the fear of judgment or the lack of public presence. I established We Connect Club to be the bridge between their potential and the marketplace. Our vision today remains anchored in that same mission: to provide an ecosystem where skills are identified, nurtured, and transformed into sustainable entrepreneurship.

​ MSMEs are the backbone of India’s economy. In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges and growth opportunities for MSMEs in 2026?
Meera Ruia Binani:
​In 2026, the biggest challenge remains the transition from traditional operations to digital-first business models. While the reach is global, the competition is also global. However, the opportunity lies in the “Hyper-Local to Global” shift. MSMEs now have access to tools that were once exclusive to large corporations. If an MSME can combine authenticity—the human element—with modern technology, the potential for growth is limitless.

We provide mentorship, financial literacy basics, and most importantly, a sisterhood that acts as a support system when they face the inevitable hurdles of business.

​Technology is no longer a luxury; it is the infrastructure for survival. AI is a game-changer for small businesses, helping them automate customer service, manage inventory, and personalize marketing without needing a massive team. For an MSME, digital marketing is the great equalizer—it allows a boutique business in Kharghar to reach a customer in another city with the same impact as a major brand.

​What qualities do you believe every entrepreneur should develop to build a successful and sustainable business?

​Consistency, adaptability, and emotional intelligence. Business is rarely a straight line. You must have the discipline to show up even on days when the results aren’t immediate, the flexibility to pivot when the market demands it, and the empathy to understand what your customer truly needs before they even ask.

​What role do networking platforms play in helping MSMEs access new markets, investors, and strategic partnerships?
Meera Ruia Binani:
​Networking platforms convert “I know how to make this” into “I know how to sell this to the world.” They are the portals where serendipity happens. You might enter a room looking for customers and leave with a partner, a supplier, or an investor. Networking creates the social capital that is often just as valuable as financial capital for a growing business.

​What policy support or reforms would you like to see from the Government to further strengthen India’s MSME ecosystem?
Meera Ruia Binani:
​I would love to see more simplified credit access for home-based entrepreneurs and specific incentives for women-led MSMEs that transition from micro to small-scale enterprises. Reducing the compliance burden through simplified digital filing systems would also allow entrepreneurs to focus more on innovation rather than paperwork.

​We are looking to scale our digital reach while deepening our local impact. My goal is to take the “We Connect” model to more cities, enabling women across India to find their voices and their markets. ​How do you see MSMEs contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047?

​MSMEs are the foundational layer of Viksit Bharat. By fostering local manufacturing, creating millions of jobs, and promoting financial independence among women, MSMEs are building a self-reliant India from the ground up. If every household has a successful micro-entrepreneur, the collective strength of that economy will naturally lead to a developed nation by 2047.
