Key Highlights: Psychologists Organize  Silent Walkathon to Advocate for Unified Independent Governing Body

Mumbai: In a powerful show of solidarity, psychologists and mental health professionals will be coming together on Sunday, 22nd February, for a Silent Walkathon aimed at raising awareness about the urgent need for a single, independent governing body to represent and regulate the psychology profession in India.

The walkathon is being organised by Pritha Saha Dutta, Founder of the Indian Mental Health Summit (IMHS), Rupa Chaubal, President of the Psychologists Collective (PC), and Masarrat Khan, Founder of the Maharashtra Dyslexia Association (MDA), three leading voices working toward advocacy, professional unity, and systemic reform in the mental health space.

The initiative seeks to highlight long-standing concerns around fragmented representation, lack of unified standards, and the absence of a central authority advocating for psychologists’ rights, ethical governance, and professional recognition.

Participants such as students, clinicians, researchers, and allied mental health professionals, will walk in silence, symbolising both the invisible challenges faced by the profession and the collective call for structural reform.

The walkathon will take place from 4 PM to 5 PM, with participants requested to assemble by 3:30 PM. The route will be a short, symbolic walk beginning at Otter’s Club, Bandra (Carter Road) and concluding at the Carter Road Amphitheatre, covering approximately half a kilometre.

Organizers emphasize that stronger governance is not only vital for professionals but also for ensuring safer, standardized, and accountable mental health care for the public.

Attendees have been encouraged to wear green to signify growth, healing, and unity within the field. Through this peaceful advocacy effort, the community hopes to spark dialogue among policymakers, institutions, and the public about building a cohesive, regulated future for psychology in India.
