Hello MUMBAI City CORRESPONDENT

June 23, 2026

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Regional Congress Committee staged a massive protest today against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the poor construction quality of the newly inaugurated Mrinal Tai Gore Flyover.

The flyover, built by the BMC at an estimated cost of ₹250 crores to connect Oshiwara and Goregaon, has reportedly developed significant potholes and uneven surface patches within days of its grand opening. The infrastructure project was recently inaugurated by the Mumbai Mayor alongside a local BJP MLA.

Inspection and Allegations of Corruption

The protest followed a detailed site inspection led by senior Congress leader Bhavna Jain. Party workers and local residents gathered at the spot, holding banners and shouting slogans against the civic body and the ruling dispensation for putting commuters’ lives at risk.

Congress leaders lambasted the administration, pointing out that a brand-new bridge costing hundreds of crores should not deteriorate so rapidly. They alleged rampant corruption and negligence in the allocation of contracts and supervision of the construction work.

Demand for Accountability

Joining the demonstration, Rajesh Sharma, Vice President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and former Deputy Mayor of Mumbai, strongly condemned the sub-standard work.

“It is completely unacceptable that a infrastructure project worth ₹250 crores turns into a safety hazard immediately after inauguration. This points directly to extreme corruption under the BJP’s watch,” Sharma stated during the protest.

The Congress leadership has officially demanded immediate accountability from the BMC Commissioner and the Mayor. They are seeking a transparent, high-level inquiry into the construction quality, raw materials used, and the immediate suspension of the contractors involved.

The party warned that it will intensify its agitation across the city if the civic body fails to repair the flyover immediately and take punitive action against those responsible for the financial irregularities.
