Mumbai: Independent Candidate Shaikh Amjad Gaffar-MBMC Corporator-Ward No.9 shares his views on the Covid-19 induced Lockdown with Hello Mumbai News Team
Interacting on phone with Hello Mumbai News Team, Shaikh Amjad Gaffar affirmed that ever since the lockdown, everything around him has been worsening day-by-day.
His prime issue has been of medical help which the government failed to provide to the people. When a patient gets admitted for Cold, Pneumonia and Fever, the hospital authorities compel the patient to go in for corona symptoms check-up and he tests positive despite not suffering from Coronavirus.Thereafter, the hospital hands over bill for lakhs rupees which a poor man cannot afford.
According to him if there is no vaccine and medicine available as yet why is so much money being charged? Why is the hard earned money going in vain? He wonders! When the most important thing of battling this disease is having a strong immunity then where is all the money going?
The government hasn’t even had appropriate policies before declaring the lockdown. They are merely providing free rice.
Owing to the spur in economic crisis, people in his ward have come forward on humanity leaving behind the differentiation of Hindu, Muslim, and Christian and have been helping each other in the time of crisis. Earlier, only the ration card holders received the ration. A lot of people usually don’t have a ration card or even an aadhar card yet. So the ones who are benefiting the ration have decided to keep some part and give some part to the ones in need. Feed the ones in need has been the motto of the people there .He is even furious with the government on how they have been handling the entire situation which they have failed terribly to cope up
The International Government has been providing financial aid to the people although its understandable the population is not vast there. But their measures are better , atleast minimal amount of money can help people to sustain. The majority of people in India are under below poverty line so how can the government ask them to purchase sanitizers when they cannot even meet their basic needs.
The migrants have suffered the most with no prior notice given to them about the lockdown when they tried to rush to their hometowns they were stopped by the police and had to suffer the worst.
It’s his mission to help everyone who are suffering by providing food kits and helping the people with medical bill payments. He has even written a letter to the commissioner hoping for a possible reply.
It is his firm belief, that we all should stand united in the bond of humanity and together help overcome this pandemic situation.
