Jammu, March 08: The International Human Rights Organization (IHRO) organised a special programme in Jammu to mark International Women’s Day 2026, celebrating the achievements and contributions of outstanding women from Jammu and Kashmir. The event highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment, protection of women’s rights, and the need for stronger societal and institutional support to ensure equal opportunities for women.

Addressing the gathering, senior Indian National Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to announce two lakh government jobs for women as a special initiative on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He said such a step would help women become financially independent and strengthen their role in society.
Tara Chand stated that empowering women through employment is one of the most effective ways to ensure social and economic stability. He noted that large-scale job opportunities for women would not only improve their living standards but would also help families and communities move towards progress and self-reliance. He added that such an initiative would be a meaningful tribute to the contribution of women in building a stronger and more inclusive society.

While speaking on the occasion, Tara Chand stressed that the government must take more proactive steps to uplift women socially, economically, and politically. He urged policymakers to introduce stronger measures that guarantee safety, dignity, and equal opportunities for women across all sectors.
