SANJUKTA ARUN BARIK coordinates accessibility at the Kalaghoda Festival.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival (KGAF) is one of Mumbai’s most celebrated cultural events, showcasing a rich tapestry of art, music, theater, literature, and more. With each edition, the festival has sought to embrace inclusivity and ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities, can fully participate in and enjoy its offerings.

In the silver jubilee year , the festival has made significant strides in improving accessibility, particularly for people with disabilities. One of the key initiatives has been the introduction of wheelchair access across various venues within the festival. With ramps, wider entrances, and designated accessible viewing areas, the festival ensures that individuals using wheelchairs can comfortably navigate the event grounds and experience the full breadth of art and performances.

Additionally, KGAF collaborates with organizations that specialize in accessibility to create an environment where people with diverse needs can engage with the festival. This commitment not only makes the festival more welcoming but also highlights the importance of universal design in public spaces. By prioritizing accessibility, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival reinforces its message of cultural inclusion and ensures that the arts remain a space for all to enjoy.
Mrs Brinda Miller, Hon Chairperson and Festival Director of Kalaghoda Arts Association has dynamically led her team for a very successful start to the Silver Jubilee year, Midway into the festival, it has drawn crowds from across Mumbai and beyond.

Sanjukta Arun feels fortunate to be coordinating the accessibility vertical, which was introduced this year to facilitate visitors on wheelchairs, infants in strollers etc with ramps being set up across all venues.

Ms Geeta Castelino, Executive board member, spearheaded this change.
This move was welcomed wholeheartedly both by visitors n Wheel chairs aswell as visitors with strollers. We hope to take this accessibility factor of the festival to greater heights in the days to come.
Spreading awareness so that more and more challenged visitors feel comfortable to be a part of this Iconic festival.
