Mumbai Kokan Community celebrates First World two-day Kokan Day Mela with great funfare.
For the first time in the history of the Kokani Community, Kokan World Day was celebrated for two days on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January at the Saboo Siddik College grounds. It saw a massive attendance and turned out to be a big success. The presence at this Mela included many politicians, businessmen from the Kokan Community such as NCP and MP from Raigad District + Shri Sunil Takre, MLA Bhai Jagtap and Minority Minister Of Maharashtra
like Nawab Malik and former MLC Yusuf Abhrani. All the men of rank were full praise towards the organizers of this World Kokani Day.
In his address to the organizers of this popular cultural and traditional Mela, Sunil Tatkare affirmed that it was a proud moment for him for getting the privilege to be a part of this grand Mela which has been organized in all its Grandeur. It is also a matter of pride that this World Kokan Day was being celebrated with dedication keeping in mind the cultural and traditional point of view in countries like Dubai, Qatar and other countries of the Middle East and added colour to the event and lived up to the name and fame globally. Kokan belt is embedded with a strong population. I feel immensely proud towards the Kokan Community for their intent to organize a Mela inorder to bring the community members from the Kokan region into unison under one roof. The Kokan Mela was also celebrated in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad etc in all its glory and in true spirits. Even former CM of Maharashtra late A.R. Antulay also happened to belong to the Kokan Region.
Another Kokan Community member and Qarar based businessman Hasan A K Chougule asserted that I am grateful to the Kokan Community Forum for having invited me for the first World Kokan Day with a Mela and I feel proud to be a part of the function. The event brought the entire community under one umbrella.
Yet another Kokan Community Member and chairman, Kokan Community forum Aziz Sawant said that the Kokan Community brought in this World Kokan Day in a two-Day event in all its Grandeur and made it a colourful and a successful event. Mere words are inadequate to shower praises to the organizers for their zeal, zest and endeavour to organize the Mela and to let the entire universe know about the activities of the Kokan Community spread a ross the globe. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Kokan Community Forum for taking the initiative to hold such a colourful event with a hope that they will continue to celebrate such Kokan Days on future too and raise the status of the Kokan community.
SAMINA SAJID HAKIM, Imran Alvi ,Imran Mullah ,Rehan Khateeb and there members played very important role in this Function.
