Sugee Group Marks its Debut in Thane with a 50+ Acres Waterfront Development

Hello Mumbai Business Desk

The waterfront development is envisioned as an integrated, globally benchmarked ecosystem around Siddheshwar Lake

Mumbai, Aug 01, 2026: Sugee Group, a Mumbai based global developer with an expanding footprint from Mumbai, Lisbon and the United Arab Emirates, has marked its strategic entry into Thane, signalling a significant new chapter in its growth journey. Known for its strong execution and premium developments across high-impact locations in Mumbai like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, Dadar, Matunga, Worli and Mulund, Sugee’s foray into Thane is part of a strategic expansion into one of the region’s most dynamic and fast-maturing markets, reinforcing its commitment to developing future-ready business ecosystems beyond traditional city hubs.

Marking its commercial debut, Sugee Group will develop a marquee project in Thane West, envisioned as a landmark business destination offering premium workspaces and advancing Thane as New India’s City of Economic Growth — Thane is N.I.C.E.™️

Positioned as a Grade A+ commercial offering, the project answers rising demand for premium commercial space in an emerging business district – a compelling value proposition for New India’s enterprises, delivering superior workspaces with seamless connectivity to the city and its industrial belts. It bridges a critical market gap for MSMEs, MNCs and growing enterprises that aspire to scale within professional, well-planned infrastructure but are constrained by the high entry barriers of Mumbai’s commercial real estate. This momentum is underwritten by Thane’s transforming infrastructure: upcoming metro lines including Maharashtra’s first ring metro, Thane-Borivali twin tunnels, the Thane coastal road, planned waterways and ports the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train) corridor and seamlessly access to the airport – all fuelling demand from businesses and consumers alike.

Drawing inspiration from globally recognised business districts such as Canary Wharf in London and Hudson Yards in New York, where integrated planning, seamless connectivity and premium infrastructure combine to create thriving ecosystems. Anchoring this vision is Siddheshwar Lake in Thane West, the defining natural waterbody around which the expansive 50+ acres development is planned, creating a distinctive waterfront destination that seamlessly blends urban infrastructure with the surrounding landscape. The project’s architectural vision has been developed under the guidance of Padma Bhushan recipient Ar. Hafeez Contractor, reinforcing Sugee’s commitment to creating a landmark commercial destination that combines design excellence with long-term urban value.

Commenting on the development, Nishant Deshmukh, Founder and Managing Partner Sugee Group said, “Thane has emerged as a strong residential-led market, and its commercial ecosystem is now entering an exciting new phase of growth. We saw a powerful opportunity to introduce a new standard for commercial spaces that not only serve existing demand but also catalyses the city’s next phase of growth through real estate. This is more than a market entry for us; it is a long-term commitment to Thane’s rise as New India’s City of Economic Growth – Thane is N.I.C.E.™️, and we intend to deliver it with the premium positioning, disciplined execution and timely delivery that define everything we build.”

Commenting on the architectural vision, Ar. Hafeez Contractor said, “Siddheshwar Lake gives this site a rare natural anchor, and our design allows the waterfront to shape the identity and experience of the district rather than simply remain at its edge. The vision is to create a commercial destination of international quality that feels open, human and enduring, where connectivity, landscape and built form come together seamlessly as one integrated environment. More than a workplace, it is designed to make the everyday work experience more engaging and more connected to nature. I believe there is no commercial development of this kind in Thane, Mumbai or even India today. Thane deserves architecture that reflects its scale, ambition and future, and we are designing for how the city will live, work and grow over the decades ahead.”

With over 50 million square feet of completed and ongoing developments, and a diversified portfolio spanning over 60 projects across India and global markets, including the UAE and Portugal, Sugee Group is now poised to tap into Thane’s rapidly evolving urban ecosystem, drawing on deep expertise across the entire real estate lifecycle. Having received over 28 industry-recognised awards and supported by a workforce of more than 400 employees, Sugee Group has established a strong presence in the real estate sector. The company has successfully delivered all its projects, on time reflecting its consistent focus on time delivery and quality.

Sugee Group aims to leverage all the tailwinds to build a development that meets today’s commercial needs while meaningfully contributing to Thane’s long-term economic and urban growth. More than a commercial address, Sugee’s maiden project in Thane is part of a larger vision to create an integrated, globally benchmarked development designed to evolve into a dynamic mixed-use ecosystem, and to help shape the next chapter of the city itself.

Hello Mumbai Sports Desk New

The SPL Cricket Tournament is back, and this time it has a new name and a whole new identity. Organizers have officially announced that the second edition will now be called SPL Bharat Cup 2027. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan in Jaipur.

A Format Built to Raise the Bar

After the encouraging response to the first season, the organizers have decided to raise the standard of the competition. The biggest change is that matches will now be played in a T12 format using synthetic leather balls, replacing the tennis-ball format used in the inaugural edition. According to the organizers, this shift will help players improve their technical skills while giving the tournament a more authentic and competitive feel.

Players between the ages of 14 and 35 will be eligible to participate. The tournament will feature eight teams, each representing a different Indian state and named after a historical icon who inspired the nation:

Chhatrapati Shivaji Warriors (Maharashtra)

Ahilya Mata Guardians (Madhya Pradesh)

Samrat Ashok Lions (Delhi)

Chandrashekhar Azad Sena (Uttarakhand)

Maharana Pratap Ranbankure (Rajasthan), the defending champions from the first edition

Selection Will Be More Transparent This Time

One of the biggest talking points of the announcement was the revamped player selection process. The organizers have promised a much more transparent and fair selection process this season.

Trials will be held in different cities across India, with details regarding registration, venues, and trial dates to be announced in October 2026.

Following the trials, an auction pool of 250 players will be created. Out of these, 50 players will earn direct spots based on their outstanding performances in the inaugural edition, while the remaining 200 players will be shortlisted through nationwide trials by the selection committee.

From this pool, the eight franchises will select a total of 128 players through an official auction, with 16 players in each squad. Before the auction, players will be divided into three categories based on their potential and previous performances. Category A players will have a base value of ₹75,000, Category B players ₹50,000, and Category C players ₹25,000. According to the organizers, the objective is to reward strong performances while giving young cricketers the financial encouragement they deserve.

Prize Money Gets a Major Boost

This edition also features a significantly larger prize pool. The winning team will receive ₹31 lakh, while the runners-up will take home ₹21 lakh.

In addition, the Player of the Series will be awarded a car, while the Best Batter and Best Bowler will each receive a motorbike.

What the Organizers Had to Say

Chief Patron Pandit Devkinandan Thakur spoke about how sports go far beyond winning and losing.

“Sports are not limited to winning and losing. They are a powerful medium for developing discipline, character, dedication to the nation, and a sense of service toward society among young people. The aim of the SPL Bharat Cup is not only to provide a platform for cricketing talent but also to nurture responsible youth who inspire society through their conduct and performance.”

He further added:

“The commitment to connecting sports with social service, which began in the first edition, will be expanded further in the second edition. I am confident that this tournament will provide a positive direction to millions of young people across the country while strengthening India’s sporting culture.”

Tournament Commissioner Madan Lal, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, highlighted the vast untapped talent in the country’s villages and small towns. He said:

“Talent can give you a start, but discipline and hard work are what keep you successful for a long time. Do not be afraid of defeat. Defeat teaches you valuable lessons, while victory brings responsibility.”

Founder Vijay Sharma said:

“Our goal is not just to identify talented cricketers but to provide opportunities to players who dream of representing India. Promoting discipline, character, and a sense of responsibility toward the nation through sports remains our highest priority.”

A Quick Look Back at Season One

The inaugural edition of the SPL tournament was held in March 2026 and received an encouraging response from both players and fans. Maharana Pratap Ranbankure from Rajasthan lifted the trophy in the debut season.

The closing ceremony was attended by former India cricketers Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Mohit Sharma, and Pankaj Singh, adding further excitement and credibility to the tournament.

With a fresh identity, a faster T12 format, a much bigger prize pool, and a more transparent player selection process, the SPL Bharat Cup 2027 looks set to become one of India’s most exciting grassroots cricket tournaments, offering young cricketers a genuine opportunity to make a name for themselves and, one day, wear the India jersey.

Mumbai FDA Suspends food licence of Cricket Club of India (CCI), MIG Cricket Club, RK Juhu Gymkhana, Aparna Juhu Gymkhana, and Willingdon Sports Club

Hello Mumbai City Desk

FDA Suspends Food Licences of CCI, Willingdon and Four Elite Mumbai Clubs Over Hygiene Violations

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licences of five of Mumbai’s prominent clubs after inspections reportedly uncovered serious hygiene and food safety violations in their kitchens.
The action has been taken against the Cricket Club of India (CCI), MIG Cricket Club, RK Juhu Gymkhana, Aparna Juhu Gymkhana, and Willingdon Sports Club following inspections that revealed multiple lapses in food handling, storage, sanitation, and infrastructure.
According to the FDA, inspectors found common issues across the establishments, including pest infestation, unhygienic storage conditions, deteriorating walls and ceilings, and inadequate food handler hygiene.
Key Findings
Cricket Club of India (CCI): Live cockroaches, mouldy vegetables, expired food items, and improper handling of utensils and food on the floor were reportedly found during the inspection.
MIG Cricket Club: Officials noted hygiene issues similar to those found at CCI, along with the absence of a valid FSSAI licence.
RK Juhu Gymkhana: The inspection revealed improper cleaning of raw materials and inadequate personal hygiene practices among food handlers.
Willingdon Sports Club: Authorities found deficiencies in temperature monitoring systems and outdated food and water testing reports.
Aparna Juhu Gymkhana: Inspectors reported rusty and unsanitised cooking equipment, along with pest infestation in the kitchen.
The FDA said the licences have been suspended until the clubs rectify the deficiencies and comply with food safety regulations.
Meanwhile, CCI President Madhumati Lele reportedly described the FDA’s observations as “minor.”
In a related development, the proprietor of Poornima, a popular South Indian restaurant in South Mumbai’s Fort area, has approached the Bombay High Court challenging the FDA’s closure order. The restaurant has argued that although it offered food samples for testing, the authorities did not collect them as required under law.
The FDA has intensified inspections across Mumbai in recent weeks as part of its drive to enforce food safety standards and ensure public health.
