MUMBAI – The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai, apprehended a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employee on Wednesday while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.

The accused, identified as Chandrakant Gamre, an employee in the Solid Waste Management Department of the BMC’s K/East Ward, was arrested following a trap laid by  ACB  Officer Anil Chittrwad.

According to the official press note issued by the ACB, the complainant had approached the bureau regarding the appointment of his own as a permanent sanitation worker at the Sahar Sam Chauki, Andheri (East). The complainant alleged that Yogesh Sawant, a senior assistant supervisor in the same department, had demanded a bribe of ₹15,000 to process the request for permanent appointment orders.

Following negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹10,000.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB verified the demand on May 5, 2026. On May 6, 2026, the bureau carried out a trap operation. During the operation, at the direction of Yogesh Sawant, Chandrakant Gamre was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹10,000 from the complainant.

A case has been registered against both public servants under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police, ACB Mumbai, and executed by a team led by Police Inspector Anil Chittrwad with supervision from Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Harugade.
